ORISSA RATH YATRA - moslems join in

2. Muslims Join Orissa's Chariot Festival
timesofindia.indiatimes.com

BHUBANESWAR, INDIA, June 27, 2006: India's syncretic traditions came into play again on Tuesday as hundreds of Muslims in Orissa joined in the nine-day Jagannath chariot festival being celebrated in several villages and towns across the state. While the main rath yatra began at the temple city of Puri, 56 km from here, which houses the 12th century Jagannath temple, the festival is also being celebrated by Jagannath devotees elsewhere. Reports spoke of all 800 Muslims joining the celebrations in the village of Deulasahi in Kendrapada district, for instance, like in previous years. The Muslims of the village, which has a population of 2,500, also contributed funds for the event, said Sameshar Khan, a villager. "The village collectively forms a committee to organise the festival every year and our community are also members," he said. This year, one of the villagers Naeem Ali donated a tree for constructing the chariots.. . Some Muslim carpenters also pitched in in building the chariots. "Hindu residents join us in our Id festivals too," said Sahid Khan, another villager, adding that the communities attended each other's marriages and other cultural ceremonies. So, it was only fitting that all the Muslim residents of Deulasahi on Tuesday gave a helping hand as the chariots rolled out -- on roads that were liberally layered with sand by all the villagers so that the wheels move smoothly despite the rain of the past few days. The story was repeated in other villages like Narayanpur in Subarnapur district where Muslims contributed funds, helped in building and then pulling the chariots, former local body chief Ananda Satapathy said. Similarly, in Motu in Malkangiri district, all 50 Muslim families wear white clothes and help out - just like their compatriots in other parts of the state.

ESSAY ON COW BY A BIHARI IAS CANDIDATE WHO PASSED

Bihari Essay "Indian Cow" (PLS GO THROUGH THIS!!)

You'll forget English by the time you finish reading this. This is a true essay written by a Bihari candidate at the UPSC (IAS) Examinations.

The candidate has written an essay on the Indian cow:

Indian Cow

HE IS THE COW. "The cow is a successful animal. Also he is 4 footed, And because he is female, he give milks, [but will do so when he is got child]. He is same like God, sacred to Hindus and useful to man. But he has got four legs together. Two are forward and two are afterwards. His whole body can be utilized for use. More so the milk. Milk comes from 4 taps attached to his basement. [Horses don't have any such attachment]

What can it do? Various ghee, butter, cream, curd, why and the condensed milk and so forth. Also he is useful to cobbler, waterman's and mankind generally. His motion is slow only because he is of lazy species, Also his other motion.. gober is much useful to trees, plants as well as for making flat cakes [like Pizza], in hand and drying in the sun.

Cow is the only animal that extricates his feeding after eating. Then afterwards she chews with his teeth that are situated in the inside of the mouth. He is incessantly in the meadows in the grass. His only attacking and defending organ is the horns, especially so when he is got child. This is done by knowing his head whereby he causes the weapons to be paralleled to the ground of the earth and instantly proceed with great velocity forwards. He has got tails also, situated in the backyard, but not like similar animals. It has hairs on the other end of the other side. This is done to frighten away the files which alight on his cohesive body hereupon he gives hit with it.

The palms of his feet are soft unto the touch. So the grasses head is not crushed. At night time have poses by looking down on the ground and he shouts. His eyes and nose are like his other relatives. This is the cow......

We are informed that the candidate passed the exam, and is now an IAS, is Bihar in somewhere..[Sorry somewhere in Bihar]

TRUPATI AND OTHER TEMPLES - HOW THEY SPEND THEIR INCOME

4. How India's Biggest Temples Spent Their Money
epaper.timesofindia.com

DELHI, INDIA, June 23, 2006: Critics may carp, but that doesn't deter the believers, who simply shrug off charges that religious shrines have turned into money-making enterprises. Instead, they point to the good work that is being done by many charitable institutions. "Sri Venkateswara temple at Tirupati is governed by the AP Hindu Religion and Charitable Institution Act, which lays out how the money is to be spent. There is an audit every year. The trust which runs the temple is accountable for every penny. So where does the question arise of the trustees pocketing the money?" asks Anita Shah Akella, financial advisor and chief accounts officer, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Agrees Sanjay Madhukar Bhagwat, CEO, Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple Trust, Mumbai, "All major temples are governed by Acts of the particular state. There is no question of funds being misused. Also, devotees can ask us to show details of our expenditure under Right to Information Act." The Siddhivinayak temple spends 90% of its annual income of Rs 15 crore (US$3.4 million) on providing medical treatment for poor patients, running schools and helping NGOs financially.

The Tirupati temple's income this year is estimated at Rs 800 crore ($182 million). And only 20% of that will be used for salaries and upkeep of the temple; the rest will be spent on charities. Schools, leprosy homes, orphanages and free treatment at Balaji Institute of Surgery, Research and Rehabilitation of the Disabled and Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Science are some examples of philanthropy at Tirupati. At Vaishno Devi, 60% of the annual revenue is spent on the upkeep of facilities like roads, sanitation, electricity etc, for pilgrims, while 40% is reserved for future projects. "We are planning a cancer hospital in Katra," says Arun Kumar, CEO, Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

A survey conducted by National Council of Applied Economic Research on tourism a few years back, highlighted the increase in the number of religious tourists. This means there is more money pouring into the coffers of shrines. Tirupati is the richest temple with an average Rs 1,000 crore ($227 million) of annual revenue, followed by Vaishno Devi with Rs 750 crore ($170 million). Another survey in 2002 by Sampradan-Indian Centre for Philanthropy, reported 87% of the people d onated money to religious organizations, amounting to Rs 475 crore ($108 million).

IN THE WHOLE OF AMERICA ONLY ONE PERSON WORKS AND THAT IS

ME
OVERWORKED
===========

...do you ever feel like this person?

For a couple years I've been blaming it on lack of sleep,
not enough sunshine, too much pressure from my job, earwax
buildup, poor blood or anything else I could think of.

But now I found out the real reason:
I'm tired because I'm overworked . . . Here's why:

The population of this country is 273 million.
140 million are retired.
That leaves 133 million to do the work.

There are 85 million in school,
which leaves 48 million to do the work.

Of this there are 29 million employed by the federal government,
leaving 19 million to do the work.

2.8 million are in the armed forces.
Which leaves 16.2 million to do the work.

Take from the total the 14,800,000 people who work for state and
city governments.
And that leaves 1.4 million to do the work.

At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals,
leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.

Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.

That leaves just two people to do the work.

You and I.

And there you are sitting at your computer reading this
MountainWings issue.

Leaving me to do all the work.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

What Would You Do?
===================

Imagine this...

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night. It's
raining heavily when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you
see three people waiting for a bus:

1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.

2. An old friend who once saved your life.

3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well
that there could only be one passenger in your car?
Think before you continue reading...

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as
part of a job application.

You could pick up the old lady because she is going to die, and
thus you should save her first;

or you could take the old friend because he once saved your
life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back.

However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again.

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no
trouble coming up with his answer. Guess what his answer was?

He simply answered: "I would give the car keys to my old friend
and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind
and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams."

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn
thought limitations. Never forget to "Think Outside of the Box."

So what was yours?

TEMPLE DEMOLISHED BY MISCREANTS IN SOUTH INDIA

4. Temple Demolished in South India by Miscreants
www.organiser.org

TAMIL NADU, INDIA, June 25, 2006: A Hindu temple at Lower Omananallur village in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu was demolished on the night of June 11-12. The police has not apprehended anyone though it seems to know the possible culprits. There had been communal tension in the area for quite some time now. The Uikattu Sudalaikoil (a local Deity, considered a form of Siva) temple was demolished thoroughly by the miscreants. While the Deity was thrown on the road, the bricks and stones offered at the temple were used to break the walls of the temple. The tree Poovarasu, considered auspicious in Tamil Nadu, under which the temple was situated was cut and the branches were strewn on the temple, breaking it down.

US BILL SETS INDIA STRICT CONDITIONS

New Delhi, June 27: The Hyde-Lantos Bill to “exempt from certain requirements of the (US) Atomic Energy Act of 1954 a proposed nuclear agreement for cooperation with India” has laid out very stringent and intrusive norms of good behaviour that cover India’s relations with Iran, its cooperation with the US in foreign policy and its willingness to place its nuclear programme under the supervision of not just the IAEA but also the US administration.

A copy of the “United States and India Nuclear Cooperation Promotion Act of 2006” introduced in the House of Representatives is available with this newspaper and makes it clear that it is the “sense of (the US) Congress” that the administration could enter into an agreement with a non-NPT member country (like India) provided that it has “a functioning and uninterrupted democratic system of government, has a foreign policy congruent to that of the US, and is working with the US in key foreign policy initiatives related to non-proliferation.”

It further goes on to state that “such cooperation will induce the country to give greater political and material support to the achievement of US global and regional non-proliferation objectives, especially with respect to dissuading, isolating and, if necessary, sanctioning and containing states that sponsor terrorism and terrorist groups; that are seeking to acquire a nuclear weapons capability or other weapons of mass destruction capability and the means to deliver such weapons.”

In case the point has been missed, the Bill goes on under a section “statements of policy” to identify at least one of the countries it has in mind as Iran. This section, using the same language as above, makes it mandatory for the US to “secure India’s full and active participation in US efforts to dissuade, isolate and if necessary, sanction and contain Iran for its efforts to acquire weapons of mass destruction, including a nuclear weapons capability (including the capability to enrich or process nuclear materials), and the means to deliver weapons of mass destruction.”

Reports in a section of the press that India was free to accept or reject these provisions were dismissed by strategic experts, who pointed out that the Bill as a whole made it apparent that these areas were crucial to approval by the US Congress, and if passed would bind India to US foreign policy objectives.

The Bill also made it clear that the US should ensure India’s full participation in the Proliferation Security Initiative and also “seek to halt the increase of nuclear weapon arsenals in South Asia, and to promote their reduction and eventual elimination.”

The Bill gives powers to the US President to “exempt a proposed agreement for nuclear cooperation with India from the requirement of Section 123 a(2) but lists out several stipulations on which alone such a presidential ‘determination’ can be made. Under these India will have to provide the US and the IAEA with a credible separation plan;

* File a declaration regarding its civil facilities with the IAEA;
* Conclude an agreement requiring the application of IAEA safeguards in perpetuity;
* Make substantial progress with the IAEA towards concluding an additional protocol consistent with IAEA principles, practices and policies;
* Work actively with the US for the early conclusion of a multilateral Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty;
* Work with and support US and international efforts to prevent the spread of enrichment and reprocessing technology;
* Take the necessary steps to secure nuclear materials and technology; and
* The Nuclear Suppliers Group should decide by consensus to permit supply to India of nuclear items covered by the guidelines of the NSG. It is clear from this that the US Congress can pass the legislation only if the IAEA conditions have been met and the NSG has agreed to open nuclear supplies to India.

And as if this was not enough, the Bill makes it clear that the President has to submit a report detailing the basis for determination that will have to include a summary of the separation plan along with an analysis of the credibility of such a plan; a summary of the safeguards agreement reached between India and the IAEA; a summary of the progress made towards the implementation of the additional protocol; a description of the steps being taken by India to work with the US towards the conclusions of the treaty banning production of fissile material for nuclear weapons; a description of the steps being taken by India to prevent the spread of nuclear related technology and details of all the other items listed above.

As the experts said, it is clear that India will now be on the “US hook” and will be under the close scrutiny of the US Congress. The Bill makes it clear that nuclear transfers to India will be terminated if it “makes any materially significant transfer of nuclear or nuclear-related material, equipment or technology that does not conform to NSG guidelines, or ballistic missiles or missile related equipment or technology that does not conform to MTCR guidelines.”

It gives the right to the President, however, to take a final decision about the nuclear transfers under certain guidelines. The Bill is categorical that if the nuclear transfers to India are restricted, then the President should ensure that participating governments in the NSG or any other source also does not supply India with nuclear equipment and technology.

So the Manmohan Singh government’s claim that if the uranium supply for the nuclear reactors, for instance, is restricted it would be free to approach other NSG countries does not really stand under the provisions of the Hyde-Lantos Bill. The Bill makes it imperative for the US President to keep the Committee on International Relations and the Committee on Foreign Relations in both Houses of Congress regularly briefed on various aspects of the nuclear deal through substantive reports.

These will include, apart from other many details, an estimate of the amount of uranium mined in India the year before, the amount of the uranium that has been used or allocation for the production of nuclear explosive devices, the rate of production of fissile material and nuclear explosive devices and an analysis as to whether the imported uranium has affected such rate of production of nuclear explosive devices.

The monitoring by the IAEA under the additional protocol will be intrusive, but so will be the supervision by the US administration that will have to meet the tall and very intrusive conditions imposed by the US Congress under this specific piece of legislation.

A man risked his life by swimming through the treacherous riptide to save a youngster being swept out to sea.

After the child recovered from the harrowing experience, he said to the man, "Thank you for saving my life.

The man looked into the little boy's eyes and said, "That's okay, kid. Just make sure your life was worth saving."

SANTA AND POPE

About a century or two ago, the Pope decided that all the Sardars had to leave Italy. Naturally there was a big uproar from the Sardar community.

So the Pope made a deal. He would have a religious debate with a member of the Sardar community. If the Sardar won, the Sardars could stay. If the Pope won, the Sardars would leave.

The Sardars realized that they had no choice. So they picked a middle aged man named Santa Singh to represent them. Santa Singh asked for one condition to be added to the debate. To make it more interesting, the debate was to be conducted using sign language and neither side would be allowed to talk. The Pope agreed.

The day of the great debate came. Santa Singh and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute before the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. Santa Singh looked back at him and raised one finger.

The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Santa Singh pointed to the ground where he sat. The Pope pulled out a wafer and a glass of wine. Santa Singh pulled out an apple.

The Pope stood up and said, "I give up. This man is too good. The Sardars can stay. " An hour later, the cardinals were all around the Pope asking him what had happened. The Pope said, "First I held up three fingers to represent the trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions. Then I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground and showing that God was also right here with us. I pulled out the wine and wafer to show that God absolves us from our sins. He pulled out an apple to remind me of original sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?"

Meanwhile, the Sardar community had crowded around Santa Singh. "What happened ?" they asked. "Well", said Santa Singh, "First he said to me that the Sardars had three days to get out of here. I told him that not one of us was leaving. Then he told me that this whole city would be cleared of Sardars. I let him know that we were staying right here." "And then?", asked the crowd. "I don't know," said Santa Singh, "He took out his lunch and I took out mine".

MOUNTAIN EVEREST

The oldest Indian to scale Mt Everest

June 23, 2006 17:39 IST

He has climbed many a peak, but scaling the Mount Everest has been special for Border Security Force officer S C Negi as the feat made him the the highest-ranking military official and the oldest Indian to reach the roof of the world.

Fifty-six year-old Negi, an additional deputy inspector general posted at BSF frontier headquarters in Jammu, made history when he led a 14-member team to Everest's 8,848 metre summit last month, the first such attempt by the border force.

Born in Nesang village in Himachal Pradesh's mountainous Kinnaur district, Negi has had a special attachment with the snowy but treacherous peaks of the Himalayas and always dreamt of scaling them.

His dream came true on May 24, when he alongwith two sherpas reached the highest point on earth, four days after his seven team members hoisted the national tricolour atop the Mount Everest.

"I will cherish this moment," he said on Friday, as Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, BSF director general A K Mitra and other top government officials heaped praise on him as they received the successful mountaineering team.

Observing that such expeditions would transform a person, Patil said youngsters should be encouraged to take part in international sports, games and adventurous activities and offered all possible support from the government.

"Whether it is river rafting, undersea or mountaineering expedition, we will provide all possible support. Youngsters should undertake such adventurous activities as sky is the limit," he added.

TEN THINGS GOD WON'T ASK!

1...God won't ask what kind of car you drove;
He'll ask how many people you drove who didn't have transportation.

2...God won't ask the square footage of your house,
He'll ask how many people you welcomed into your home.

3...God won't ask about the clothes you had in your closet,
He'll ask how many you helped to clothe.

4...God won't ask what your highest salary was,
He'll ask if you compromised your character to obtain it.

5...God won't ask what your job title was,

He'll ask if you performed your job to the best of your ability.

6...God won't ask how many friends you had,
He'll ask how many people to whom you were a friend.

7...God won't ask in what neighborhood you lived,

He'll ask how you treated your neighbors.

8...God won't ask about the color of your skin,
He'll ask about the content of your character.

9...God won't ask why it took you so long to seek Salvation,
He'll lovingly take you to your mansion in heaven, and not to the gates of Hell.

10...God won't ask how many people you forwarded this to,
He'll ask if you were ashamed to pass it on to your friends.

Read Carefully

Happy moments, praise God.
Difficult moments, seek God.
Quiet moments, worship God.
Painful moments, trust God.
Every moment, thank God.

RESONANCE

In Physics, Resonance means " creating the same frequency from the first vibrating object like tuning fork to the second vibrating one". Now let us apply to creation of smile from one to another. If you wish to create smile in others closeby, you begin to smile. Even a serious looking person will start smiling. Make others smile by your "resonance" smile.

3. Lahore Krishna Temple In Fact Razed
epaper.hindustantimes.com

DELHI, INDIA, June 18, 2006: Contrary to the Pakistan government's claim that the only Hindu temple in Lahore is safe, the country's Minorities Welfare Council has said the Krishna temple has been demolished and got a stay from the High Court on the construction of a commercial building at the site. In a petition to the HC the council said the temple was demolished following a notification from the Evacuee Trust Property Board.

4. Hindu American Foundation Condemns Destruction of Last Hindu Temple in Lahore, Pakistan
www.hinduamericanfoundation.org

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 15, 2006) - The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) bemoaned the destruction of the last Hindu temple in Lahore, Pakistan. At the time of the partition of India in 1947 Lahore was known as one of the centers of culture and cosmopolitanism. Soon thereafter its great artists, musicians, and its Hindu and Sikh populations either moved voluntarily out of that city or were driven out by the fundamentalist Muslim forces that have shaped the country since then. "The last stroke in making Lahore totally Muslim is the demolition of the only remaining Hindu temple in the city," said Ramesh Rao, member of the HAF Executive Council.

A private developer was allowed to demolish the 'Krishna Mandir' at Wachhoowali, Rang Mahal, and construct a commercial building in its place. Government officials, in charge of protecting minority interests, were involved in the machinations that led to the destruction of the last Hindu temple in Lahore. The Evacuee Property Trust Board (EPTB), the government body maintaining properties of minorities, especially Hindus and Sikhs, was said to have concealed facts from the municipal board chairman about the nature of the building. This is not the first time the EPTB has permitted the demolition of a temple. It was only last year that the Vehari temple in Punjab was razed for the construction of a commercial building

Respected Prime Miniser,
Jai Hind!
I submit the following for your favorable consideration :
As you’re aware of the fact that English language has been helping everyone nationally and internationally for jobs and contacts. In particular, our Indians also are benefited by getting jobs in USA and everywhere because of English and their qualifications. They are in great demand world over. Therefore, my suggestion is, why don’t all schools in India teach English from Grade I for still better prospects of the Indian citizens ?
May I request the Prime Minister to arrive at a fruitful solution using your good offices by consulting the Chief Ministers of the States?
Yours truly

LOVE LETTER

My Style

This Month Love Letter

The White House
September 19, 1915

My noble, incomparable Edith,

I do not know how to express or analyze the conflicting emotions that have surged like a storm through my heart all night long. I only know that first and foremost in all my thoughts has been the glorious confirmation you gave me last night - without effort, unconsciously, as of course - of all I have ever thought of your mind and heart.

You have the greatest soul, the noblest nature, the sweetest, most loving heart I have ever known, and my love, my reverence, my admiration for you, you have increased in one evening as I should have
thought only a lifetime of intimate, loving association could have increased them.

You are more wonderful and lovely in my eyes than you ever were before; and my pride and joy and gratitude that you should love me with such a perfect love are beyond all expression, except in some great poem which I cannot write.
Your own,
Woodrow

INDIAN TEXT BOOKS

1. India's Government Strikes Mention of Beef Eaters From New History Books on Ancient India
epaper.timesofindia.com

NEW DELHI, INDIA, June 12, 2006: (HPI note: The irony of this NCERT action is that the previous BJP government met with vigorous opposition from the now ruling Congress party and allies when it attempted to make the same change, considered an affront to Hinduism, in the text books.)

References to ancient India's beef-eaters have been done away with in NCERT's newly-introduced history textbooks. NCERT, National Council of Educational Research and Training, is the national commission responsible for the textbooks in India's schools. NCERT changed the syllabus for Classes I, III, VI, IX and XI from this year in accordance with the national curriculum framework (NCF) 2005, to prescribe broad guidelines for an ideal course curriculum. Till last year, Class VI and XI textbooks had references to beef-eating habits. "These references were there in ancient Indian history books for Classes VI and IX till last year. Those textbooks have been replaced and the new ones have no mention of beef-eating," NCERT spokesman Ashish Bahad said. The reference had raised objections from several quarters last year and a Public Interest Litigation was filed in the Supreme Court. NCERT had also formed a three-member expert committee to look into the matter. "Following the NCF 2005, NCERT developed new history textbooks that attempt to arouse the curiosity of schoolchildren. The books encourage students to find out historical facts on their own," Bahad added.

CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE - MAYA OF CHEMISTRY

In the plant kingdom, animals and human bodies, new things are created for the growth and decay. They are due to what is called chemical reactions. If the chemical reactions stop, the functioning of the universe will collapse. Probing in this area, enlightens several facts.

IF COLLEGE STUDENTS WOULD HAVE WRITTEN THE BIBLE

The Last Supper would have been eaten the next morning -- cold.

The Ten Commandments would actually be only five -- double-spaced and written in a large font.

A new edition would be published every two years in order to limit reselling.

Forbidden fruit would have been eaten because it wasn't cafeteria food.Paul's letter to the Romans would become Paul's email to abuse@romans.gov.

Reason Cain killed Abel: they were roommates.

Reason why Moses and followers walked in the desert for 40 years: they didn't want to ask directions and look like freshmen.

Instead of God creating the world in six days and resting on the seventh, he would have put it off until the night before to get it done.

Eating five vegetables/fruits a day prevents......

'prevents artery hardening' but not vegetarianism alone whereby you eat your dal, roti, fried foods and no vegetables or good amount of salads; read on

Eating vegetables may prevent hardening of the arteries, research suggests.
US researchers found 38% less build up of fatty deposits in the arteries of mice who were fed a mixture of vegetables, including carrots and peas.

Evidence on the effects of diet on atherosclerosis in humans is not clear but eating fruit and vegetables is known to protect against heart disease.

The study in the Journal of Nutrition said the average person only eats three portions of fruit and veg a day.

The researchers from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine assessed the effect of diet on heart disease by studying mice that had been specially bred to rapidly develop atherosclerosis - the formation of fatty plaques in the arteries which can eventually block blood flow leading to heart attacks and strokes.

"While everyone knows that eating more vegetables is supposed to be good for you, no-one had shown before that it can actually inhibit the development of atherosclerosis"
Dr Michael Adams, lead researcher

Half the mice were fed a vegetable-free diet and half the mice were fed a diet which included broccoli, green beans, corn, peas and carrots.

After 16 weeks, researchers measured cholesterol content in the blood vessels and estimated that plaques in the arteries of the mice were 38% smaller.

Although there was also a reduction in total cholesterol and body weight in mice fed the vegetable-rich diet, analysis showed that this could not explain the reduction in atherosclerosis.

Lead researcher Dr Michael Adams said: "While everyone knows that eating more vegetables is supposed to be good for you, no-one had shown before that it can actually inhibit the development of atherosclerosis."

Inflammation

He added that there was a 37% reduction in serum amyloid - a marker of inflammation in mice - suggesting that vegetable consumption may inhibit inflammatory activity

"Although the pathways involved remain uncertain, the results indicate that a diet rich in green and yellow vegetables inhibits the development of hardening of the arteries and may reduce the risk of heart disease," he said.

"It is well known that atherosclerosis progression is intimately linked with inflammation in the arteries."

Dr Adrian Brady, consultant cardiologist at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, said: "It's an interesting study and it is encouraging. There is a public health message that dietary interventions are helpful.

"And now this animal model shows maybe there is long-term dietary involvement that could lead to less plaques."

He added more work was needed to look at the development of plaques and confirm the protective effect of eating fruit and veg.

Dr Charmaine Griffiths, spokesperson for the British Heart Foundation, said: "This study supports the recommendation of eating at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

"Different coloured fruit and vegetables contain different vitamins and minerals, so the more types of fruit and vegetables you can include in your diet the better."

PLATO ASKS HIS TEACHER ON LOVE AND MARRIAGE

This is a article which I read somewhere:-

One day, Plato asked his teacher, 'What is love? How can I find it?'

His teacher answered, 'There is a vast wheat field in front. Walk forward without turning back, and pick only one stalk. If you find the most magnificent stalk, then you have found love.' Plato walked forward, and before long, he returned with empty hands, having picked nothing.

His teacher asked, 'Why did you not pick any stalk?'

Plato answered, 'Because I could only pick once, and yet I could not turn back. I did find the most magnificent stalk, but did not know if there were any better ones ahead, so I did not pick it. As I walked further, the stalks that I saw were not as good as the earlier one, so I did not pick any in the end.

His teacher then said, 'And that is love.'

On another day, Plato asked his teacher, 'What is marriage? How can I Find it?'

His teacher answered, 'There is a thriving forest in front. Walk
forward without turning back, and chop down only one tree. If you find the tallest tree, then you have found marriage'.

Plato walked forward, and before long, he returned with a tree. The tree was not thriving, and it was not tall either. It was only an ordinary tree. His teacher asked, 'Why did you chop down such an ordinary tree?' Plato answered, 'Because of my previous experience. I had walked through the field, but returned with empty hands. This time, I saw this tree, and I felt that it was not bad, so I chopped it down and brought it back. I did not want to miss the opportunity.'

His teacher then said, 'And that is marriage. You see son Love is the most beautiful thing to happen to a person, its an opportunity but you don't realize its worth when you have it but only when its gone like the field of stalks. Marriage like the tree you chopped , it's a compromise.'

Thanking God!

If a Jew breaks a leg, he thanks God he did not break both legs; if he breaks both, he thanks God he did not break his neck.

- Yiddish proverb

WHAT DO WOMEN REALLY WANT?

Young King Arthur was ambushed and imprisoned by the monarch of a neighboring kingdom. The monarch could have killed him but was moved by Arthur's youth and ideals. So, the monarch offered him his freedom, as long as he could answer a very difficult question. Arthur would have a year to figure out the answer and, if after a year, he still had no answer, he would be put to death.

The question was: What do women really want?

Such a question would perplex even the most knowledgeable man, and to young Arthur, it seemed an impossible query. But, since it was better than death,he accepted the monarch's proposition to have an answer by year's end.

He returned to his kingdom and began to poll everyone: the princess, the Priests, the wise men, and even the court jester. He spoke with everyone, but no one could give him a satisfactory answer.

Many people advised him to consult the old witch, for only she would havethe answer. But the price would be high as the witch was famous throughout the kingdom for the exorbitant prices she charged.

The last day of the year arrived and Arthur had no choice but to talk to the witch. She agreed to answer the question, but he would have to agree to her price first.. The old witch wanted to marry Sir Lancelot, the most noble of the Knights of the Round Table, and Arthur's closest friend!Young Arthur was horrified. She was hunchbacked and hideous, had only one tooth, smelled like sewage, made obscene noises, etc. He had never encountered such a repugnant creature in all his life.

He refused to force his friend to marry her and endure such a terrible burden, but Lancelot, learning of the proposal, spoke with Arthur. He said nothing was too big a sacrifice compared to Arthur's life and the preservation of the Round Table.

Hence, a wedding was proclaimed and the witch answered Arthur's question: 'What a woman really wants,' she said, 'is to be in charge of her own life.' Everyone in the kingdom instantly knew that the witch had uttered a great truth and that Arthur's life would be spared.

And so it was, the neighboring monarch granted Arthur his freedom and Lancelot and the witch had a wonderful wedding.

The honeymoon hour approached and Lancelot, steeling himself for a horrific experience, entered the bedroom. But, what a sight awaited him. The most beautiful woman he had ever seen, lay before him on the bed. The astounded
Lancelot asked what had happened.

The beauty replied that since he had been so kind to her when she appeared as a witch, she would henceforth be her horrible deformed self only half the time and the beautiful maiden the other half.

'Which would you prefer? she asked him. 'Beautiful during the day ...or at night?'

Lancelot pondered the predicament. During the day he could have a beautiful woman to show off to his friends, but at night, in the privacy of his castle, an old witch! Or, would he prefer having a hideous witch during the day, but by night a beautiful woman for him to enjoy wondrous, intimate moments with?

(If you are a MAN reading this ...) What would YOUR choice be?

(If you are a WOMAN reading this ..) What would YOUR MAN'S choice be?

What Lancelot chose is below. BUT ... make YOUR choice before you scroll down below. OKAY?

Noble Lancelot, knowing the answer the witch gave Arthur to his question, said that he would allow HER to make the choice herself.

Upon hearing this, she announced that she would be beautiful all the time because he had respected her enough to let her be in charge of her own life.

Now ... what is the moral to this story?

The moral is ..

If you don't let a woman have her own way, things are going to get ugly.

PAKISTAN DENIES DEMOLITION OF KRISHN TEMPLE

2. Pakistan Denies Krishna Mandir in Lahore Demolished
www.uniindia.com

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN, June 16, 2006: Pakistan has denied reports that the Krishna Mandir in Lahore has been demolished to pave the way for the construction of a shopping mall. Minister for religious affairs Ejazul Haq rejected Indian opposition leader Lal Krishna Advani's statement on the demolition and challenged his remarks that minorities in Pakistan did not have religious freedom. "The Krishna Mandir is in perfect condition. I invite L.K. Advani to visit Lahore and pray at the temple," the Daily Times quoted Mr. Haq as telling reporters yesterday during a visit to Krishna Mandir on the Ravi Road. He said Rs 700,000 (US$11,600) was spent on the renovation of Krishna Mandir a few months ago, adding that irresponsible statements by the Indian leadership could affect the ongoing peace process between the two countries.

Dear Madam Soniaji,

Greetings. I wonder if you would like to take up the cause of dredging the Indian rivers, which your great husband had promised but could not complete. You may start with Delhi, and then move on to other places.

Also if you can have sewage treatment plants constructed at all the important towns and cities, you will be fulfilling a promise which Hon'ble Rajiv Gandhi spoke about and saw the need for it.

The above actions will give you and the congress government great popularity . It appears to me that while the Europeans care very much for ecological cleanliness, Indians do not seem to care very much about it with the resultant uncleanliness, disease and suffering which will only multiply if prompt action is not taken..

Hope you will give urgent attention to this cause.

I would be grateful for your feedback.

Thank you.

Dear Rahul,

Congratulations on your entering the political arena. Hope you will succeed and bring about to India the real glory of its golden past.

May I suggest that you take up the cause for dredging the rivers in India and which your hon'ble father had promised but could not complete. This will give you immense popularity. You can start with the Jamuna river in Delhi and Vrindavan and Ganges at Varansi. You may also suggest to the government of India to have sewage plants put in all big cities which your great father also wanted to do. I would be obliged for your feed back. tHANK YOU.

Best of luck, young man.

A MILLION TIMES SMARTER

A Million Times Smarter

There were three men who died and before God would let them into heaven, God gave them a chance to come back as anything they wanted.

The first guy said, " I want to come back as myself, but 100 times smarter."

So God made him 100 times smarter.

The second guy said, "I want to be better than that guy, make me 1000 times smarter."So God made him 1000 times smarter.

The last guy decided he would be the best. So he said, "God, make me better than both of them, make me 1,000,000 times smarter.

So God made him a woman.

RAHIM

RAHIM

One person in the history of India whose life has impressed me the most is RAHIM – ABDUL RAHIM KHAN KHANA, I think that was his full name.

When Akbar was only 14 years old he succeeded to the throne of Delhi or India. Since he was only a boy, it was not possible for him to take care of the vast empire of India. So, Bairam Khan became the caretaker king and he trained Akbar in every walk of life from swordsmanship to statesmanship.

When Akbar reached the age of 18 yrs he became the king and Bairam Khan was no longer holding the post. He was given one of the important ministerial posts. However, at times he felt that he was not being respected or consulted in each and every affair which the king dealt with. Therefore sometimes he will talk to his colleagues and tell them that I trained Akbar and now he doesn’t care for me. His colleagues were no doubt quite jealous of him as they might have felt slighted at times when Bairam Khan was the boss. So, they told him that this fellow is nothing; after all you trained him so why don’t you make mutiny and become the king yourself.

Bairam Khan accordingly made mutiny against Akbar and he lost. As is the usual punishment for such a crime, the military court sentenced Bairam Khan to death; however the final approval was in the hands of the king. When Bairam Khan was brought in front of the king, Akbar had not forgotten what all he did to train him for kingship. Akbar therefore pardoned him and said you are a free man and what would you like to do.

Bairam Khan said he would like to go to Haj. Akbar ordered a retinue of soldiers, camels, horses and plenty of money to be given to Bairam khan. As Bairam khan’s caravan was passing through Afghanistan, the caravan was attacked by robbers, which happens even today in that country. In that fight, Bairam Khan was killed; therefore the caravan returned back to the capital in Agra with his wife who was pregnant.

The king welcomed his wife like someone from his own family and had a palace constructed for her. All facilities were accorded to her like the royals. When the child was born large-scale celebrations were made and the child was named Abdul Rahim Khan Khana. When the child grew up he was made a minister in Akbar’s court.

Rahim was very much influenced by Bhagwan Krishn and was a staunch devotee of Krishn. He also used to spend much of his time with Hindu saints and was a contemporary and friend of Tulsidasji.

When Rahim received his salary at the end of each month, he will donate all the money to whoever came to his door and he himself lived a very frugal life. One of his colleagues one day said to him:

Jyon Jyon kar ooncho karo, tyon tyon neeche nain;
Kunwar ji yeh ada sikhi tum kain.

Rahim replied, as he himself was a poet and wrote many dohes, as follows:

Devan Haro aur hai, devat hai din rain;
Log ham pe bhram Karen, tate neeche nain.

Translation: Q.As your hand goes up(in giving donations), so your eyes look downward;
Oh prince, where did you learn this style.

A. The one who gives, is someone else who gives day and night;
Lest people think that I am the giver, that’s why my eyes look downward.

Rahim had several ups and downs and was also put in prison, thanks to a Hindu courtier of the king, who always talked against Rahim; (No doubt many of the Hindus are very good at that). He was also sentenced to death once but his friend Amir Khusro got him released. He then worked as a bhadbhooja’s helper (the one who roasts the Chane in the Bhaad). Rahim then told people not to follow him as he was no longer the same or in a position to give money to people.

Finally, Rahim died; this is another sad story how he was murdered by jealous Moslem courtiers. A big mausoleum was made for him as was the practice for the ministers etc. at the time.

After a few years another courtier of high rank died and as the mausoleum for him was being built, they were informed that the red stone which was used for these mausoleums and which came from Jaipur was not available for the time being.

So, one of the courtiers suggested that why not remove the stones from the mausoleum of Rahim and use it for the new mausoleum. This suggestion was accepted and as the red stones were being transferred from Rahim’s mausoleum to the new one, one of the courtiers pointed out that Rahim was making donation even in his death.

Rahim’s dohe, some of them, in the next article.

ORCHID FLORA OF THE NORTH WESTERN HIMALAYAS

4. Rare Plant Collection of India Needs New Curator
www.somdeva.com

DELHI, INDIA, June 12, 2006: HPI received the following plea from Vivek Sharma regarding an extraordinary herbarium (collection of dried plants) accumulated by his father over many years:

"My father Professor Som Deva passed away last year leaving behind a lasting legacy of his phenomenal work on the Orchid Flora of the North Western Himalayas and his personal herbarium including his hand drawn diagrams on orchids, bamboos and grasses. His herbarium is a monumental life work. Curated and maintained single handedly by Prof. Som Deva for more than four decades, this Herbarium houses more than 20,000 specimens of Angiosperms from north India covering the Upper Gangetic Plains, Shivaliks, Chakrata Hills and various parts of Greater Himalaya. Perhaps it is one of the largest private collections of flowering plants in the country. The specimens have been largely collected by Prof. Deva himself (Field Numbers 11,343) and his students. The specimens have been neatly affixed and labeled indigenously on newspapers which have been kept under the standard Genus and Family folders. The arrangement follows Bentham & Hooker's System of Classification. Under each Family of Angiosperms there are elaborate notes on the number of genera and species within various phytogeographic regions within India and neighboring countries. Each specimen bears a collection number and an index number. The index number has been drawn from Sir J.D. Hooker's Flora of British India (FBI). For example, the sheet bearing Crotalaria mysorensis has been numbered as 50.8.21. This indicates Family No. 50 (Leguminosae), Genus no. 8 (Crotalaria) and species no. 21 given in FBI. Using this index one can easily find the reference of the species in FBI. We are looking for a suitable place where his work can be put to good use by lovers of botany, students and researchers. In case any one may be interested please let me know and we can decide how to proceed. For more details please click URL above."

HANSI KE FAWWARE

3. Sewa International Hosts an Event to Instill Proud in Indian Culture
Press Release

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, May 29, 2006: Sewa International, a non-profit volunteer organization, hosted a successful event called Hansi ke favvare (Fountains of Laughter) in Atlanta, Georgia on May 29, 2006. Three stand-up comic acts set the flavor for the event that was organized to instill proud in Hindu culture. Abhinav Shukla presented his poetry on every day Indian life from his college days to his cooking experiences that delighted the audience. Baba Mourya, a singer, painter and cartoonist who has worked in television, captured the audience with humorous stories. Baba also painted images on the spot of Lord Rama, Lord Hanuman, Veer Chhatrapati Shivaji, Swami Vivekananda and Mother India that were auctioned off to participants. The third poet, Rajesh Chetan, who writes daily columns for national newspapers, recited verses that call for peace in the world. The press release adds, "An additional attraction at the event was an exhibition on Hindu Culture and Dharmic Traditions of India prepared by the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh. Origins of Vedic culture, concept of God, contributions of ancient India to science and mathematics, Ayurveda, and other topics were presented in a simple but appealing format."

HAATHI KE DAANT DIKHANE KE AUR AUR KHANE KE AUR

HINDU TEMPLE IN LAHORE DEMOLISHED

It refers to shocking UNI report quoting Pakistani newspaper Dawn about demolition of the only Hindu temple in Pakistani city Lahore after the site was allotted to a private developer for commercial building. Transfer of temple-site was in violation of rules concealing the fact of site being a religious place of minorities there. Demolition becomes significant because the erring official had earlier also demolished a Hindu temple in Vehari during his posting there.

It is a matter of satisfaction that several political parties of Pakistan have objected to such demolition of temple. Otherwise also, Pakistan Government has offered appreciable facilities to uplift minority-places of religion like at Nankana Sahib and Katasraj. Interesting aspect is that official tourist-booklet published by Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) initiates description of Lahore as ‘named after Luv, son of the legendry hero of Ramayana because Luv founded the city of Lahore’. Pakistani government should rebuild a glorious temple in Lahore to respect hurt sentiments of crores of Hindus worldwide after punishing the erring official.

ARE MOSES AND JESUS BURIED IN KASHMIR

New interest in j&k 'Jesus grave'
- By Yusuf Jameel

Srinagar, June 11: The hypothesis that Jesus Christ is buried in a central Srinagar locality has aroused a lot of interest among historiographers, researchers, scholars, archaeologists and religious groups both in India and worldwide once again.
A team of German researchers, including two archaeologists, is planning to visit Srinagar later this year to investigate the subject. Within India, the Janata Party has set up a group of experts from among its members which would be coming to Kashmir's summer capital soon to start research work. The party's president, Dr Subramanian Swamy, who was in Srinagar last week, said that after reading a booklet by a German he has a "feeling of curiosity" about Jesus Christ and Moses having visited Kashmir and in the belief that both had died and are buried in the Valley.
Muslims in Kashmir and elsewhere revere both Jesus and Moses as "noble prophets" of "Bani Israel" (Children of Israel), as the Quran makes a number of references to them. Dr Swamy also pointed to the belief of many Kashmiris that they were one of the "Lost Tribes" of Israel. "It is a matter of great interest that Prophet Moses is buried in Kashmir and that Jesus too had visited the Vale, went to Ladakh to visit the Hemis monastery where he took Buddhism as his faith, returned home but left it again for Kashmir to escape persecution, and died here in Srinagar," he said. The Janata Party leader said that the team he has set up would do methodical research on the subject and come out with its findings "which everybody in the country would be interested in."
In the past teams of researchers from Israel, Germany and other parts of the world conducted studies on the subject but could not find any scientific verification of the hypothesis. The premise that Jesus is buried at Rozabal in the Khanyar area of Srinagar and that Moses is buried outside Bandipore town in north Kashmir thus requires a proper scientific study to ascertain the truth. Kashmiri scholar and historian Fida Muhammad Hussein, a former director of the department of archaeology of the state, asserted that in history there is no such thing as the last word on any subject, "because research... and more research" could lead to fresh discoveries. He believes that the hypothesis that the people of Kashmir are one of the Lost Tribes cannot be baseless as there are many similarities between Israel and Kashmir in terms of language and traditions, and he would like to see a thorough study initiated into the subject. "I think these similarities only strengthen the belief that we are one of the Lost Tribes. Yet the research into the subject must go on," he told this newspaper.
Suzanna Olsson, the author of a recently published book, Jesus, Last King of Kashmir: Life after the Crucifixion, reveals the findings of her seven-year journey through the Himalayan state. She was in the Valley and also visited other parts of India, went to Afghanistan and other places to spearhead an investigative study into the post-crucifixion life of Jesus Christ. She says that she drew her inspiration from sources that range from the traditional sacred writings of many of the world's main religions, to the legendary tales of Europe and Asia and the annals of contemporary research. The author leads readers to what she believes are the tombs of Jesus and his mother Mary, located within India, and expounds on the evidence she has uncovered.
Ms Olsson is personally convinced of the tombs' authenticity but frustrated in her efforts to obtain scientific verification, which is vital for acceptance by the rest of the world. According to her, the basis of the beliefs is through tracing the lineage of Jesus Christ, correlating traditional Biblical figures and places with those historically recognised throughout the Kashmir region, and interpreting religious texts in an unconventional light, concentrating on their commonalties.
Many others who support the interesting tradition passed down among Kashmiris regarding their ancestry from the Lost Tribes of Israel point out that various places in the region have Israeli names, such as Har Nevo, Beit Peor, Pisga, Heshubon. These are all the names in the land of the Ten Tribes of Israel. The same thing is true in the names of people — both male and female names, as well as the names of villages. People in Kashmir perform a feast called Pasca in spring, when they adjust the difference of days between the lunar calendar and solar calendar, and the method of this adjustment is the same as the Jewish one. Several books have been published on this. Urdu, the official language of the state for over two centuries, includes many words of Hebrew. There are about a hundred names of places in Kashmir which are in fact Hebrew names that ancient Israelites were extremely familiar with. Hoon in Kashmiri means a dog, and wife is called Aashen — the same as in Hebrew. The word "Joo" added as a honorific by local Muslims to the names of elderly persons to show respect — for instance Muhammad Joo or Ahmed Joo — is believed to be derived from the word Jew. One of the tribes of Kashmir is called Asheriya, which is Asher; the tribe of Dand is Dan; Gadha is Gad; Lavi is Levi.
Aziz Kashmiri, in his book Jesus in Kashmir, also refers to common eating habits. "Half roasted fish called phar in Kashmir is the favourite dish of both the Israelis and the people of Kashmir," he said. He insisted that many inhabitants of Kashmir are descendants of the Lost Tribes who were exiled in 722 B.C. They wandered along the Silk Road into the countries of the East, to Persia and Afghanistan, until they reached the Vale of Kashmir and settled there. He refers to the travelling 12th century Arab historian El Bironi, who had written: "In the past, permission to enter Kashmir was given only to the Jews."

Subject: Hypocrisy of MF Husain and Pseudo Hindus Exposed!

Dear Friend

The London based "Asia House" had organised an art exhibition hosting painter MF Husain which had opened on 10th May, which had the nude paintings of Hindu goddesses, which has caused Global Defamation of Hinduism.

The exhibition was cancelled after Hindu Human Rights and Hindu Forum of Britain protested against this exhibition.

Some pseudo-intellectuals of Hindu origin in Britain and 'Economist' Meghnad Desai of 'House of Lords' are now trying to reinstate this M.F. Husain's solo exhibition in London by accusing Hindus as being Fanatical.

PROBING MULAYAM'S ASSETS

ARRE BHAIYYA, LIVE AND LET LIVE!

Supreme Court has moved in right direction to make Mulayamsigh Yadav explain source of accumulated wealth by himself and family-members during his political regime. Not only he may be arrested in case misappropriation proved, but also Income-Tax Department should exercise its option to purchase property at 10-percent above the book-value. It is time that exemption on agriculture/farm income may be abolished which is misused by political rulers to whiten their black income/money. Action will make Mulayam exposing rival politicians for similar black deeds.

Reports on electronic-media indicate victimisation of the petitioner Vishwanath Chaturvedi by Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) at behest of UP Chief Minister. Supreme Court should also provide a security-cover to the petitioner by ordering judicial enquiry into LDA's mid-way cancellation of plot/house allotted to Vishwanath Chaturvedi.

sAY CHEESE

It was almost time for school to dismiss and a mother noticed it looked like rain. So she drove toward school to pick up her eight-year-old daughter.

She turned down the street to see her daughter running toward her down the sidewalk. A lightning bolt flashed and the little girl looked up towards the sky, smiled and then began running toward her mother's van. Another lightning bolt flashed and again the little girl looked towards the sky, smiled and resumed running. This happened several more times until the little girl finally arrived at where her mother was parked.

Her mom immediately inquired as to the strange behavior. "Why did you keep stopping and smiling at the sky?" she asked her daughter.

"I had to, Mommy. God was taking my picture."

VAJPAYEE A 'KAYAR', ADVANI A CHAMELEON, SAYS LITTLE UMA (SADHNA)

Tiny Uma talks away Rae Bareli dance dirt
11-year-old in star turn
RADHIKA RAMASESHAN

Rae Bareli, May 5: If yesterday’s lewd dancing before his mother’s meeting made Rahul Gandhi go from pink to red with anger, a pint-sized clone of Uma Bharti made him happy enough to forget, though possibly not forgive.

He spent half the day today to find the culprit who organised the dance to entertain the crowd as it waited for Rae Bareli candidate Sonia Gandhi to arrive and address them. The media were not given the name or names.

Today, until Rahul landed, 11-year-old Sadhna Bharti, who insists that she is inspired by Uma, kept the crowd glued to their seats with a great deal of sound and fury and moralising. Dressed in a bright yellow nylon churidar-kurta, she did what Rahul and Sonia had been diffident of doing: fire a no holds barred attack on their political opponents.

Rahul smiled, patted his saviour continually on the back and looked happy when he left the stage at Sehegaon.

Sadhna, who is a resident of Delhi where her family owns a health club and a gym, has adopted the Bharti surname.

She was drawn into politics in 2003. In the four Assembly elections that year, she campaigned for candidates of her “choice”, regardless of their party affiliation.

Come 2004, she had a change of heart. “I was swayed by Sonia Gandhi. So when Oscar Fernandes and Anand Sharma (Congress leaders) asked me to become their star pracharak (campaigner), I agreed,” Sadhna said.

The “discovery” did not happen by chance. Apparently, her “pravachans” (preachings) drew crowds in droves.

Her father and chaperone, Rajesh Rajput, said her recitation of the “Gayatri mantra” when she was a little over two convinced the family that Sadhna was a prodigy.

The similarities with another child wonder, Uma, do not end here. Like Uma, Sadhna is from the backward caste, Lodh-Rajputs. Whereas her older clone hails from Madhya Pradesh, the mini version is from Etah, Uttar Pradesh.

In this round, her father — who gives the impression of a man on the make via his daughter — claims she spoke in over 50 meetings for Sonia. On Tuesday, when the Congress president arrived in Setau village to address a meeting, Sadhna was on stage, holding forth on Uma. When she abruptly left, a “delighted” Sonia insisted she should finish speaking.

The small wonder takes her celebrity status seriously. She was miffed at having to wait nearly two hours at 42 degrees Celsius today before Rahul appeared. When some dust-slaked kids with runny noses tried to make friends with Sadhna, the little miss peremptorily brushed them away.

In her 45-minute “bhashan”, she called Atal Bihari Vajpayee a “kayar” (coward) who turned an approver when he was arrested before Independence. Lal Krishna Advani was a “chameleon”.

Uma “poses as a sanyasin but she is neither a sanyasin nor Sita, she’s Surpnakha”.

Sonia is “Saraswati mata”. “Don’t trust the key to Rae Bareli’s development to any Tom, Dick or Harry. Do you know who Advani’s parents are? Or for that matter, Uma Bharti’s? But this balidaan ki devi (goddess of sacrifice) is the daughter-in-law of Indira Gandhi, the wife of Rajiv Gandhi and the mother of Rahul and Priyanka. Give the key to her.”

Sadhna turned coy when asked if she would join politics. “No, I want to be a doctor and serve the people.” Her father looked on disapprovingly.
