INDIAN COMMUNITY IN UK ADMIRED FOR ETHICS

Indian diaspora respected for ethics: Tory MP
Indo-Asian News Service

New Delhi, February 15, 2007

The Indian community in Britain is widely respected and liked, says a Tory MP, putting into perspective the escalating racism debate in Britain, particularly after verbal attacks against Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on the TV show Celebrity Big Brother.

"Indians are respected for their work ethic, business success and the way they have integrated into British society," said Stephen Crabb, who at 34 is the youngest Conservative member of the House of Commons.

"There is little jealousy or animosity towards the Indian diaspora among British people and that is one of the reasons why Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty attracted so much support during the dispute over Jade Goody's behaviour," Crabb told the agency during an India tour with British human rights organisation Christian Solidarity Worldwide.

Shetty, who was allegedly subjected to racist bullying by fellow participant reality TV star Goody, was last month voted to victory on "Celebrity Big Brother" by viewers in Britain.

Crabb said Shetty was the only celebrity among the participants of the Channel 4 programme that had a bunch of people cooped up together in a house with no access to the outside world.

"During my visit to India, I realised that Shetty is truly a celebrity, unlike Jade Goody and others, who are far from being famous in the UK."

"Whether Jade Goody's comments were motivated by racism or not, they were unquestionably rude and offensive. Goody's behaviour was ugly and many British people want to distance themselves from it," added Crabb, who won the Preseli Pembrokeshire seat in the 2005 general election.

The British parliamentarian, who is a member of the Conservative Friends of India committee, said there was growing awareness in Britain, especially in political circles, about India's economic growth and its increasing importance as a regional power and a strategic ally.

"While there is still some concern, often fuelled by trade unions, among the general population about job security as a result of outsourcing to India, many people are recognising that India has arrived on the world stage and will help shape global economic and geopolitical developments in the decades ahead," added Crabb.

When asked what key areas his committee had identified for engagement with New Delhi, he said the highest on the agenda was trade.

"The fear is that firms in the UK are not capturing enough of the huge increase in India's international trade. The US and Australia seem to do better."

According to Crabb, the concerns of the committee included educational links, especially in the fields of science and engineering, and healthcare.

His party is also eager to see an increasing diplomatic role of India in the area of regional security.

The committee, he added, was concerned about the protection of human rights "not just within India, but how India can influence other nations' human rights situation, for example Burma (Myanmar)".

Dear All,

Rakesh Roshan should also be given accolades on spreading the word on Hinduism in his own way. If you have watched the two movies Koi Mil Gaya and Krissh , there is subtle Hindutva in both these movies.
If you have small children , you would be surprised to see how they take up to these things. In Koi Mil Gaya Rakesh Roshan has brought out the concept of the word 'Aum' very beautifully. Further Krissh is nothing but Krishna. Krishna coming as a saviour in a new story. Kids have forgotten Superman and Spiderman and now love Krissh.
The cartoon stories of Krishna and Ram also have big impact on the kids.
So Hinduism will only be reinvent itself in various forms. But will neve die.Few set of Christian Missionaries can never destry the core of Hindutva.
But we can't remain complesant. Hindu charity has to come up in a big way for things to change. We have to start contributing in form of Hindu Charity. This will take ydecades to show results.
Kudos to some of the RSS attached societies which have been workign towards this mission for a long time.

regards
Sadashiv

With the pincers of truth I have plucked
From the dark corners of my heart
The thorn of many judgments.

What are they to me?

WHO, FROM WHERE, WHY, ETC. AND SUCH QUESTIONS

A man approached the Blessed One and wanted to have all his philosophical questions answered before he would practice.

In response, the Buddha said, “It is as if a man had been wounded by a poisoned arrow and when attended to by a physician were to say, ‘I will not allow you to remove this arrow until I have learned the caste, the age, the occupation, the birthplace, and the motivation of the person who wounded me.’ That man would die before having learned all this. In exactly the same way, anyone who should say, ‘I will not follow the teaching of the Blessed One until the Blessed One has explained all the multiform truths of the world’-that person would die before the Buddha had explained all this.”

WHAT LIFEIS AND WHAT'S ITS PURPOSE

Life is not what it seems to be. Don’t trust it, for it is very tricky, and full of disappointments. Perfection was not meant to be found here. I am not giving you a false picture of life. This is not the kingdom of God; it is God’s laboratory, where He is testing souls to see if they will overcome evil desires by good ones, and make Him their supreme desire, so they can return home to His kingdom.

TO RECOGNIZE A STROKE

Subject: FW: Today's Safety Topic - Recognizing a Stroke

STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Steps

My friend sent this to me and encouraged me to post it and spread the word. I agree. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks. Seriously.. Please read:

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) and just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00pm, Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this...
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Thank God for the sense to remember the "3" steps, STR. Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *Ask the person to TALK, to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE c oherently (i.e. . . It is sunny out today)
R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
{NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue... if the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke} - Also give the individual 2 Aspirins as they will help to thin out there blood...

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE

Feb 22, 2007
Use your imagination not to scare yourself to death but to inspire yourself to life.
Adele Brookman

Today's Inspirational Story

Happiness Is a Choice
Furnish your mind with happy memories.

The 92-year-old, petite, well-poised, and proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably coiffed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today.

Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet curtains that had been hung on her window.

"I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

"Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room .... just wait."

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," she replied.

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged... it's how I arrange my mind.

"I already decided to love it ... It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.

"Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away ... just for this time in my life.

"Old age is like a bank account--you withdraw from it what you've put in."

So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

BUDDHIST TECHINGS

A man born in the world, by proper thought comes to delight in goodness, he recognizes the impermanence of wealth and beauty; and looks upon religion as his best ornament.

-Fo-Sho-Hing-Tsan-King

SHRIMAD BHAGWAT GITA

Arjuna: O Krishna, you have recommended both the path of selfless action and sannyasa, the path of renunciation of action. Tell me definitely which is better.

Sri Krishna: Both renunciation of action and the selfless performance of action lead to the supreme goal. But the path of action is better than renunciation.

Those who have attained perfect renunciation are free from any sense of duality; they are unaffected by likes and dislikes, Arjuna, and are free from the bondage of self-will.

DESIRES, DESIRE, DESIRE, DESIRES

There are two ways of finishing your desires—by realizing, through reason and discrimination, or wisdom, that only God can give permanent unalloyed happiness; and by fulfillment. In many cases desires lie hidden within the subconscious. You think they are finished, but they are not. Life is indeed a great mystery; but the mystery clears away when you dissect life with the scalpel of reason. If every day you sit quietly for a little while and analyze yourself, you will discover that you have many unsatisfied desires. They are like dangerous germs that you carry through life, and wherever you go, in this life or next, they will go with you.

—Paramahansa Yogananda, “The Desire that Satisfies All Desires” from Man’s Eternal Quest.

ADVICE OF THE BUDDHAS

Not to do any evil,
To cultivate good,
To purify one's mind--
This is the advice of the Buddhas.

-Dhammapada, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.

MIND'S TURMOIL

Desire and aversion are of the mind.
The mind is never yours.
You are free of its turmoil.

You are awareness itself,
Never changing.

Wherever you go,
Be happy.

-Ashtavakra Gita 15:5

THY WILL BE DONE...

…let this ideal be always foremost in your consciousness: “Not me, but You, my beloved God. Not my will, but what do You want of me, my Lord?”

—Sri Day Mata, “Thou Art My Life, Thou Art My Love” from Self-Realization magazine, spring 2004.

BHAGWAN SHRI KRISHNA

Arjuna: You are Vayu, god of wind; Yama, god of death; Agni, god of fire; Varuna, god of water. You are the moon and the creator Prajapati, and the great-grandfather of all creatures. I bow before you and salute you again and again.

You are behind me and in front of me; I bow to you on every side. Your power is immeasurable. You pervade everything; you are everything.

PURANI YAADGAREIN and TASLIM....BURN THE BURQAS

Millions of Indians must have been relieved to hear that Taslima Nasreen’s visa which was due to expire in a week has been extended to her life-time so that she can become a citizen of India. A fatwa pronounced by some Bangladeshi bigots — for her turning a free thinker — has put her life in jeopardy in Bangladesh. Thousands of Bangladeshis have been illegally sneaking in from their country to India, finding means of livelihood, getting ration cards and voting rights.

We have not been able to do anything about them. Here we have a case of an eminent novelist who came to India legally and is threatened with expulsion. Her only crime is that in her novel Lajja she exposed rampant corruption and religious skulduggery in her homeland and reneged from her faith. She has every right to do so. Mullahs pronounced the sentence of death on her. It is our sacred duty to protect her from harm.

We gave refuge to the Dalai Lama and thousands of his Tibetan followers. They proved to be law-abiding and hard-working citizens. Though the Chinese government has often upbraided us for granting them asylum, the rest of the world has applauded our extending hospitality to them. One can understand our government’s reluctance to act in haste lest it offend the government of Bangladesh but some kind of assurance should be given to Taslima Nasreen that she need not worry. She can stay in India for as long as she likes.

In an article published in The Outlook, Taslima exhorted Muslim women to “burn their burqas”. It created an uproar in orthodox Muslim circles. The Koran and the Hadith were quoted in support of as well as against women wearing burqas. It is assumed that it is a matter which concerns Muslims only. This is not so: it concerns all of us because Muslims are an integral part of our society. Non-Muslims would like to be closer to Muslims, their families visit Muslim homes and receive them in theirs. This is not possible if bigoted Muslims persist in segregating women folk and bullying them to wear burqas when they step out. Segregating women is a relic of the medieval past and should be discarded in the interests of the Muslim community.

I fully support Taslima’s call to burn burqas. Other Muslims nations are fast getting rid of them. Pakistan and Bangladesh have had women prime ministers and ambassadors. Pakistan, Tunisia, Libya and many other Muslim countries have women soldiers. Who are these mullahs and their female counterparts to tell us that wearing a burqa is a religious obligation? It is not; it has become an emblem of jehalat — ignorance and backwardness.

Delightful nonsense

I can’t recall another book that opened the floodgates of my childhood memories as much as The Tenth Rasa: An Anthology of Indian Nonsense, edited by Michael Heyman, Samanyu Satpathy & Anushka Ravishankar (Penguin). I wish the publishers had changed the title to a more selling one, calling it Indian Nonsense. It would have more sense without the Tenth Rasa.

Children of my generation knew a lot of nonsense verse by heart. It faded out of memory with the onset of years and we rubbed out what remained as too childish to be remembered. I tried to recall what I once knew by rote. The most popular one was as follows:

Akkar dukkar bhumbai bhau/
Assee, nubbey, poorey sau
Sau mein laaga dhaaga / Chor nikal kar bhaaga.
Akkar, dukkar, bhumbai bhau. (Eighty, ninety, to a full hundred.
String the hundred by a thread/ The thief ran out and fled.)

Some nonsense verse had educational aims. So we learnt the English alphabet:
ABC Too kitthey gaeo see
Edward mar gayaa / Pittan
gayee see
(ABC Where did you go
Edward died, and so/I went to beat my breast.)

For some reason when we had to cram multiplication tables when it came to nine into nine is 81, we put in verse:
Nau nai ikkasee/ Booko teyree masee
(Nine into nine makes 81
Your mother’s sister is a
monkey.)

Another entirely meaningless favourite was a meaningless jingle you could add to as you please:
Chal, chal, Chameli bagh mein / mewa khil aoonga;
Mewey kee daalee tootgayee / chadar bichhaoonga;
Chaddar ka phattaa konaa / Darzi Bulaoonga
Darzee kee tootee sooee / Loohar bulaoonga
Lohar Ka toota hathaura / ghora dauraoonga.

I can’t bother to transalate this one; none of these are in the book. It has many better examples taken from all our languages. It would appear in Bengali, Marathi and Punjabi, in that order, have more nonsense to their credit than other languages. Bengali has been translated by Sampurna Chatterji, Marathi by Mangesh Padgavkar, Punjabi by Nirupama Dutt.

Sampurna Chatterji has her own masterpiece:
Idli lost its fiddli/ Dosa lost its crown
Wada lost its wiolin/ And let the whole band down.

There was a fish who called himself: Thank You Bhery Maach.
Till the fishermen caught and salted him/ And ate him with the boiled starch.

The bathing Hymn is a mixture of Marathi and English: I found it hilarious:
Om havum bathum namaha/om take offum clothesum namaha
On the body applyum oilum namaha/ Scrubscrubum namaha rubrubum namaha
Scrubscrubum namahe
Om on the body pourum waterum namaha
Glugglugum namaha blugblugum namaha
Glugglugum namaha
Om applyum soapum namaha
Scrubscrubum namaha rubrubum namaha
Work upum latherum namaha.

Can anyone keep a straight face reading this?

"EJECT! EJECT!" went the frantic call from the Air Traffic Control Room of a fighter airbase. The MiG had developed a serious midair snag and the pilot's life was in danger. The baffled pilot was unable to decide whether to eject or remain glued to the cockpit, as it appeared a safe shelter to him.
Quite often, alas, despite vigorous promptings from the ground crew, the pilot's deceptive sense of safety in the cockpit at that moment proves fatal.

Most of us lead our lives this way, attached to our own little world, refusing to come out. I remember the day we graduated from IIT Kanpur after spending five unforgettable years in that intellectually charged environment. Many of us were unprepared to leave that island of learning to plunge into life and face the world.

Later, while serving the government, I had to get used to the discomfort of moving from one part of the country to another almost every three years.

For example, our pleasant stay in Meerut Cantonment is still vivid in our minds. Our house on a silent street with lush green lawns, a full view of the rising sun, birds chirping.

And then, the rude shock of the sudden transfer from calm and cosy Meerut to the bustle of Delhi. But today, after three years in the metropolis, the thought of shifting again to a smaller place is dismaying.

Is life merely about this flip-flop from happiness to misery? Here the Bhagavad Gita answers with its eternal message of detachment, which our saints constantly repeat.

It is said, also, that Sri Ramakrishna was very fond of food, strange in an enlightened saint. Frequently asked the reason by Ma Sarada, he finally replied, "I am so detached that only through this one attachment do I keep my soul and body together. You'll see that three days prior to leaving this mortal world I will stop looking at food."

The message from these exalted sources: live in such a way that ejection is casual when the moment inevitably comes.

TRIVENI SANGHAM

THRIVENI SANGAMAM
2/16/2007 6:01:25 AM Dr. A. M. C. Menon

At two in the morning, the first sight of Allahabad railway station ,after fifty hours of hectic journey in the train, was revolting. Scattered all along the rough and uneven platform were human bodies, dark and depleted, scantily clad in filthy rags and almost nude ,deep in sleep, breathing the dense foul air ; reminding one of emperor Ashoka, who stood in the middle of lifeless bodies of blood shed Kalinga , which changed him totally and took to Buddhism. It took some time to gather our belongings and get out of the station as we had to be careful not to tread on them while passing over. Outside, it was lively with all sorts of transports; rickshaws ,cycle rickshaws ,autos ,old beaten cars and the like and the drivers inviting and persuading; but they were disappointed when we were driven away in a bus.

The night was hot and sticky and even in the early hours of the day the temperature did not change much to our comfort. This is supposed to be the best climate in North India, from September to December; you can imagine how it will be in the summer. At the sight of Ganga every body started running to the banks in pure admiration, faith and worship ; they took the holy water in both hands and placed it on their heads submitting themselves to the divine sublime.

Thriveni Sangamam is the union of our three holy rivers; Ganga , Yamuna and Saraswathy. We were taken in a boat to the place where Ganga joins Yamuna and underneath the surging and gurgling Saraswathy. The force of Saraswathy you can feel when you take the dip; she brings up the earth underneath and the water is thicker and once in twelve years (Kumbhamela) she is really at large and the holy union attires a dark red colour. Millions flow in here for this special occasion; it is a real festival for the Indians; and the huge water tanks kept specially for this purpose of providing water for them may not be sufficient, we were told. One dip in Thriveni washes away all your sins in the past; the second is good for the forefathers and the diseased and the third one purifies you physically and spiritually.

Sankaracharya Temple situated on the banks of Ganga is a pleasant sight from the river, a unique structure in three floors. Adi Sankara hailing from Kalady of Kerala is known for his impeccable knowledge of Vedas, Upanishads and Geetha and travelled all over India in quest and his theory of ADWAITHA is well accepted and adored all over the world; and he was adjudged triumphant of the Sarvangyana Peedam. Mahakavi Vallathole portrays his picture in the poem “Malayalathinte Thala” as a true, traditional Indian and a solitary star of his time whose name will be cherished for thousands of years. Adi Sankara will be the pride of Malayalees, as well as Indians for ages to come. Kapalikan, in need of heads of Sarvangyanas for his ambitious scheme of getting entrance to the heaven with his soul and body, approaches Sankaracharya and requests to submit his head for this rare purpose. Adi Sankara did not think twice and welcomed the idea. Kapalikan was surprised but no change was noticed in the usual wind flowing in the Himalayas; the branches of the trees swayed in appreciation and the rivers resumed their songs of holiness because they have heard this voice before. They have witnessed many such scenes in the past ! The story of Jeemutha vahana letting him elf be eaten by the eagle for the life of a snake is well known. Maharaja Shibi cut his thighs and body muscles and supllied to a vulture in order to save the life of a pigeon. Yet another Maharaja sacrificed his life by accepting all the sorrows bestowed on others so that they could live in peace. Karna took out his ‘Kavachas’ and ‘kundalas’ and granted to the needy and accepted defeat and death in the hands of Arjuna. The stories are much more. It is the inherited gift of an Indian to honour his guest and cater to his requirements and, at times , even stake his life for the ‘ARTHI’. Sankaracharya told him to take away his head when his disciples are not around.
That evening, as Sankaracharya was deep in meditation and others were engaged in ‘Sandhya Vandanam’ , Kapaplikan approached him from behind with his ‘thrisul’ aimed at the neck. Sankaracharya heard a wild cry and opened his eyes ; Kapalikan was at his feet bathed in blood and his pupil Sanandanan who killed him was bowing in reverence as he said “ Swamin, that divine head of yours is good enough to make this whole world a ‘KAILASAM’, it shouldn’t be used for the benefit of a selfish creature."
We stood there in worship of Shiva at the temple; Sankaracharya was an ardent worshipper of Shiva; feeling the caressing hands of ‘MOKSHA’ and behind, we had the expanse of Ganga and still ahead, Thriveni Sangamam.

SIMI A GOVERNMENT PROTECTED BANNED ORGANIZATION

SIMI a secessionist outfit: SC

New Delhi, February 15: In a stinging observation, the Supreme Court described the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) as a ‘secessionist movement’.

You are a secessionist movement. You have not stopped your activities," a Bench of Justice S B Sinha and Markandeya Katju observed while dealing with the special leave petition filed by SIMI challenging the ban imposed on it.
Counsel Kamini Jaiswal, appearing for the proscribed outfit, argued that there was no evidence to link SIMI to any anti-national activity after 2003.

The Bench then directed that the matter be tagged along with the other appeals filed by the organisation.

In the present SLP, SIMI challenged the judgement of the Unlawful Activities (prevention) Act Tribunal headed by Justice B N Chaturvedi of the Delhi High Court which confirmed the ban imposed on the organisation by the Union governent on February 8, 2006.

The organisation claimed that the ban was violative of its Fundamental Rights of expression, right to assemble peacefully without arms and the rights to form associations enshrined in Article 19 (1) (a) (b) (c) of the Constitution; and Freedom of Religion as enshrined in Article 25.

Besides the ban imposed last year, SIMI was banned for its alleged anti-national activities by the Centre earlier on September 27, 2001 and September 27, 2003. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THEINDIAN SLAVE MENTALITY CONTINUES...

Indians are most unpatriotic people
- koshur batta - Feb 8 2007

Indians must be the most unpatriotic people in the world. For me patriotism doesn’t mean being proud of your country only; it also means being sensitive towards happenings around you and being consciously aware of the developments that have consequences for the continuity of India as a nation. There was a time when a US citizen avoiding a compulsory two year stint with the army was considered an unpatriotic person not worthy of holding any public office. Our nation is more obsessed with Shilpa Shetty, Ash- Abhishekh, cricket and money. Our media is more concerned about ghosts, snakes and frivolous incidents on which it devotes hundreds of hours of air time every week. We as individuals are only energized towards amassing personal fortunes and have no sensitivity towards our political system, which is slowly but surely eating into the basic fundamentals of our nationhood. There are strong indications of India heading for another partition, which could be a precursor for an eventual balkanization of the country. A large section of national and international media is reporting that India has, by and large, accepted the Pakistan president’s latest four point formula for resolution of Kashmir conflict. Indian public, intelligentsia, media, civil society as well as the political parties are maintaining a stoic silence on the developments indicating a tacit acceptance of disintegration of the country. Unfortunately, nobody has taken a serious view of Manmohan Singh welcoming the Musharraf’s proposal. Does that mean India is so fatigued while maintaining Kashmir that it wants a good riddance? What can you say about our country, which undermines the sanctity of its own parliamentary resolutions that proclaim Kashmir being the integral part of the country. Nothing indicates the inevitability of the Kashmir’s cessation from India than the fact of national polity, irrespective of their affiliations, no longer mentioning Kashmir as an integral part of India. Seventeen years back when more than three hundred and fifty thousand Kashmir Pandits were thrown out of their homeland, they tried to tell the nation that their ouster was not a political attack on the community but a civilizational assault on the Indian nationhood. Nobody in India took them seriously and on the contrary ridiculed them for predicting the expansion of Islamic terrorism to the other parts of the country. Today, a Muslim fundamentalist can find a safe refuge in any Indian city from where he can launch his sordid attacks as per his will. And if any body dares to mention this fact publicly, he is immediately condemned as a right wing communalist. Sadly, Indian people have accepted the opposition to particular fundamentalism as non-secular.

Predictions of a displaced Kashmiri Pandit (Many will laugh at this as they laughed in early 1990’s).

1. India will agree to the joint administration of unified Jammu and Kashmir.
2. There will be no border between India and Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir.
3. There will be free movement of people within the state.
4. There will be free movement of goods across the state.
5. Terrorists will then have a free access to any part of the state from where they can easily sneak into India.
6. The arms and destructive ammunition will have unhindered access to Jammu from where it will be smuggled to other parts of Kashmir.
7. India will withdraw its forces from Kashmir and station them in Panjab.
8. For sometime both Pakistani as well as Indian currency will be legally accepted tender in J and K.
9. No Indian will ever be allowed to own property in Kashmir, while as Kashmiri’s will be free to purchase real estate anywhere in India.
10. Gradually Indian presence in Kashmir will decrease and an Independent Jammu and Kashmir will come into existence.
11. The independent Jammu and Kashmir will then merge itself with Pakistan.
12. Pakistan will then restart the whole process in other Muslim dominated area of India.
13. Indians will continue to be obsessed with cricket, film stars, settling abroad and amassing personal wealth.
14. As per the present indications all this will take a maximum of ten years.

I doubt any patriotic people will accept this lying down. But, as I started, Indians and patriotism are non-congenial terms.

This time, GOD almighty, please prove me wrong.

MOSLEM VILLAGES

Haindava Keralam
Five star Muslim villages on the way
2/14/2007 4:27:30 AM: HK

New Delhi:UPA Govt. is hell bent to appease the Muslims in the country by introducing bizzare appeasement measures day by day.

Today as revealed by Daily Pioneer,The UPA Government has decided to identify as many as 200 villages with 100 per cent Muslim population to be developed as model villages countrywide under the Prime Minister's Adarsh Gram Yojana.

The Plan panel has approved Rs 10 crore as a token amount for the scheme that would be revised, depending on the demand.

The Government is likely to consider watering down the criteria in the next financial year by extending the scheme to the villages with mix population and Muslim majority.

Such villages, once developed, will have 24x7 power and water supply, silky roads, well-furnished hospitals, schools, and all other basic amenities, which a normal village otherwise cannot dream to have even after 60 years of independence.

The sop in the form of 'model villages' comes in continuation of the Sachar Committee report on the uplift of Muslims and banking institutions being told to set aside a certain amount of loans to be disbursed among the country's major minority community.

WATCH YOUR HEART, IF YOU ARE AN INDIAN

Watch your heart if you're an Indian
Mandakini Gupta |

New Delhi: Heart attacks don't just happen to people who are over 50 years of age. Over the last two decades, the demographics have changed drastically.

When it comes to health and fitness Alok Tanwar has always toed the line. At the age of 34, he showed absolutely no risk factors. A heart attack was out of the question.

But it still happened. One of his arteries was 100 per cent blocked.

"I am a teetotaller. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. I have nieces and nephews, I used to tell them ‘look at me. Stop eating junk. I'm 34 and still fit as a fiddle’. But look at me now. It's all destiny I think,” says Tanwar.

After the attack Alok was hit by another revelation - the possible reason behind the attack.

"I can't believe I had a heart attack just because my Indian gene puts me at risk of heart disease,” he says.

Indians are four times more at risk of having heart disease than any other race. Our DNA is driven by what is sometimes called the famine theory or thrifty gene theory.

note: WELL, WE ARE INDIANS, WE ARE VEGETARIANS SO WE ARE ALRIGHT?

"Asia was considered starved because of famines for years. So the gene modified itself where the insulin became less effective. And whatever fat and cholesterol came to the body was stored away just in case the body didn't get food soon. But now our lifestyle has changed. We have a lot of very rich food. But the gene is still working in the same way,” says Cardiologist, Escorts, Dr Naresh Trehan.

Thirty years ago only five per cent of cardiac patients were below 35. The number has now increased to 30 per cent.

Doctors warn that if heart disease is not controlled now it will kill more people in India than the AIDS virus.

RESURRECTION OF NALANDA UNIVERSITY

RIGHT NOTE: Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing strikes a holy bell during the inauguration of the Xuanzang (Hieun Tsang) Memorial Hall in Nalanda on Monday.

PATNA: The inauguration of a renovated Xuanzang (Hieun Tsang) Memorial Hall in Nalanda on Monday provided an opportunity for Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing to underline his country's keenness to have closer ties with India.

Leading a 110-member delegation at the ceremony, he underlined the need for the two countries to work together. "Let us begin from this beautiful example."

The Chinese Foreign Minister arrived here from Beijing on Sunday and drove to Nalanda, taking the same path taken by the 7 A.D. traveller from China to Nalanda University as a student and returned after a stint as a teacher. The Hall was dedicated to him almost about five decades ago. What remained incomplete had been redone as an architectural marvel.

Chinese monks recited prayers, even as Mr. Li, in the company of Tourism Minister Ambika Soni, Bihar Governor R.S. Gavai, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Chairman of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations Karan Singh, formalised the inauguration and threw the hall open for public viewing. Relics brought from China were put on display.

Mr. Li delved on the age-old cultural ties between the two countries and the joint initiative in the 1950s and went on to commit himself to making the joint declaration of marking 2007 as India-China friendship through tourism a success.

Ms. Soni spoke of developing a Buddhist circuit and more cultural exchanges.

Mr. Kumar said the day's function would help restore the pride of the proposed Nalanda University. He hoped that China would contribute, along with Singapore and Japan, for setting up a truly international study centre with little or no interference from either the Centre or the State Government. He wanted the nodal agency preparing the blueprint to involve the local people in setting up and running the university.

PTI reports from Nalanda:

Ye Xiaowen, Minister and administrator for religious affairs of China, recalled President Hu Jintao's words, ``the Chinese and Indian people have created splendid cultures and made indelible contribution to human progress. In the past, our two people went through similar experiences in almost all historical periods. The destiny of our countries and people are closely bonded together''.

MUSLIMS AND SOCIALISTS ; WITH FRIENDS LIKE THESE.....

Muslims and socialists:With friends like these -Economist.com
Feb 8th 2007

An odd marriage of Muslims and secular socialists, united against America, is challenged by pundits of right and left

AS GEORGE BUSH prepares to send more troops to Iraq, his critics all over the Western world are bringing more protesters onto the streets—and the range of people who are angry enough to fill the icy air with chants of rage seems broader, and in some ways stranger, than ever.

On February 24th, for example, gallery-goers and pigeon-feeders should probably avoid London's Trafalgar Square, on which tens or possibly hundreds of thousands of people will converge from all over Britain, and farther afield, to demand the withdrawal of Western troops from Iraq—and while they are at it, oppose the renewal of Britain's nuclear arsenal. Tourists who do venture near the square will notice the odd sociology of the anti-war movement: the unkempt beards and unisex denims of old-time street fighters rubbing shoulders with the well-trimmed Islamic beards and headscarved ladies.

This leftist-Muslim partnership exists not just on the streets, but in the protest movement's heart. Britain's Stop the War coalition, which has organised more than 15 nationwide protests and hundreds of smaller events, was largely forged by two small, intensely committed bodies—the far-left Socialist Workers Party (SWP) and the Muslim Association of Britain, which is close to the international Muslim Brotherhood. These tiny groups have co-ordinated street protests by up to 1m people.

With its combination of an American-aligned foreign policy and a large, angry Muslim population, Britain is an unusual case among Western countries. But in many other places, too, Muslim grievance has been yoked to a broader anti-capitalist or anti-globalist movement whose leitmotif is loathing of the Bush administration and all its works.

An Italian Marxist involved in the “Social Forum” movement, which organises large, disparate gatherings of groups opposed to the existing world order, puts it this way. Almost everybody in the movement shares the belief that “capitalism and militarism” (both epitomised by America) are the main challenges to human welfare. If political Islam can blunt American triumphalism, then so much the better—even from the viewpoint of those who would never dream of donning a headscarf or upsetting a sexual minority.

At the micro-political level, co-operation between angry Muslims and secular socialists is not always smooth. In Britain, one of the offspring of the anti-war alliance has been the Respect Party, which combines a socialist platform with anti-Americanism and resistance to “Islamophobia”. But if Respect has remained small, that is partly because its core constituents are viewed warily, even within the Islamic-leftist fraternity. Many Muslim activists dislike the “control-freak” tactics they associate with the Brotherhood and its offshoots—and on the political left, the Respect Party has been eschewed by Greens and other radicals because of grandstanding by its SWP core.

And inevitably the partnership between secularists and Muslims faces hard moments. In Britain and the Netherlands, young Muslim activists (perhaps influenced by lefty comrades) have questioned their elders' harsh views on homosexuality—but they do not always win the argument. In the Netherlands, a Turkish-born Islamist, Haci Karacaer, tried to build bridges with the leftists (and gay-rights advocates) of the Dutch Labour party, only to be ostracised by fellow Muslims.

Just as Britain is the heartland of the leftist-Muslim partnership, it is also the main locus of a sharp and trenchant critique of political Islam. At its toughest, the argument of a new school of anti-Islamist leftists—mainly rehearsed on the internet—is that parts of the international left are now making as colossal a mistake as they did over Soviet or Chinese communism. They have let hatred of America and capitalism blind them to darker forces.

Two sorts of people have stressed this point: European ex-Marxists, embarrassed by their errors over Stalin, and dissident ex-Muslims from the Islamic world who have fled to the West and fear their hosts will “go soft” on their persecutors.

Last year's row over the publication in Denmark of cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad prompted a manifesto against the “new totalitarianism” of Islamism whose 12 signatories were in one or other of those categories. The five French-based signers included Bernard-Henri Lévy, a smooth Parisian pundit, and Philippe Val, an editor who faces a lawsuit from Muslims over the drawings.

The foundational texts of Britain's “anti-Islamofascist” movement include the Euston manifesto, so called because of the drafting sessions in a bar near a London station. This spoke of a threat from Islamism to causes that leftists hold dear, such as equality between sexes and sexual orientations. It denounces “disgraceful” alliances with “illiberal theocrats”.

Many European leftists see things quite differently, viewing Islamism as a potential ally against the American demon, and this has real consequences. In Italy, for example, the coalition headed by Romano Prodi, the centre-leftist prime minister, is under strain because its most left-wing parties are reluctant to vote more money for the American-led fight against Afghanistan's Taliban. One party, Communist Refoundation, dreams of an Afghan peace conference with the Taliban taking part.

The pundits who discuss these matters in cyberspace roll their eyes at such “appeasement”. Take the chief drafter of the Euston text, Norman Geras, a Manchester-based political scientist who grew up in white-ruled Rhodesia and still calls himself, with qualifications, a Marxist.

By studying the rise of Nazi Germany, Mr Geras says, he realised both the power and the limits of Marxist ideas: they help explain the economic forces that brought Hitler to power, but cannot explain certain “egregious forms of evil”—such as the regime of Saddam Hussein, whose downfall was an absolute imperative.

Nick Cohen, a peppery writer for Britain's centre-left media, has put flesh on the Euston manifesto's bones by listing the sins of the Islamic-leftist compact. Political Islam, he says, is not just a disaster for many causes (like feminism and gay rights) that the left cherishes; it also overturns the Enlightenment idea that diversity of opinion is desirable.

Paul Berman, a professor at New York University, is one of several Americans of liberal background who have joined the British denunciation of Islamofascism. He says the left's refusal to take sides in the internal battles of Muslim countries (between dissidents and oppressors) reflects an “angelic blindness” which mistakes violent reactionaries for charming exotica.

Such words will be shrugged off by those who see America as the main global foe. But there is a new voice in America's internal debate which might, in an odd way, embolden those who want social liberals and centre-leftists to lead the charge against Islamist authoritarianism.

Dinesh d'Souza, an Indian-born writer and hero of America's political right, uses a new book—with the provocative subtitle “The Cultural Left and its Responsibility for 9/11”—to argue that America's “progressives” are not just soft on political Islam, they have positively encouraged it.

By being decadent in its behaviour and thinking, America's liberal elite has given ground to self-appointed foes of decadence, such as the political Islamists, Mr d'Souza says; and he sees an antidote in American-style religious conservatism.

Here's a prediction. Most people on the Western liberal left will shrug off the call by Messrs Geras, Cohen, Berman and Lévy to “wake up” to the threat of Islamism. But Mr d'Souza will appal them so much that some may make a sudden dash for the barricades and join the fight against all theocracy, including the American sort.

Shariat laws now applicable in Jammu and Kashmir
http://www.outlookindia.com/pti_news.asp?gid=4&id=449812
JAMMU, FEB 9

Jammu and Kashmir Assembly tonight passed a bill bringing the country's only Muslim-majority state in the ambit of Shariat laws.

Moved as a private members's bill by Opposition leader Abdul Rahim Rather in the Assembly, the House passed the legislation by voice vote without any dissent.

With the Congress-PDP led government supporting the bill, the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Taj Mohideen said "government does not oppose it and the Law Department has not raised any objection to it".

Mulsims in the state have so far been governed by customary laws. Although some marriages in parts of Kashmir were covered under Shariat laws, Jammu and Kashmir had no legal frame-work for Shariat to be applicable.

Rather said Shariat laws will not be applicable so far as criminal legislation is concerned. He said the criminal laws will be governed by Indian Penal Code and Ranbir Penal Code.

Former Deputy Chief Minister and MLA Muzaffar Hussain Baigh said that application of Shariat laws should be subject to review by a select committee as it could create problems for those who have married non-Muslims.

This would also cause problem for judiciary about the fate of thousands of pending cases in the courts, he said adding this would give a licence to Muslims to marry four to five times in contravention to other laws.

The Bill was discussed by a select committee before its passage in the House.

The Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Bill will deal with all questions regarding inter-state succession, special property of female, including personal property inherited or obtained under contract or gift or any other provision of personal law, marriage, dissolution of marriage, including talaq, trusts and trust properties.

The bill, which was introduced by Rather in the House on 30th of September 2005, was then sent to Select Committee on March 29, 2006 on a motion moved by Mangat Ram Sharma.

Speaker Tara Chand set up a 9-member select committee headed by the then deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baigh on May 23, 2006.

The committee made certain amendments by dropping words "maintenance" and "wakaf" in the bill as these are governed by the code of CrPC and Jammu and Kashmir specified Wakafs and specified Wakaf Properties (management and regulation) Act 2004 respectively.

Excerpts from "Living Under the Shadow of Article 370"

http://kashmirherald.com/featuredarticle/article370.html

J & K already had sufficient autonomy under Article 370 to run roughshod over minority rights and keep them segregated from the rest of India six decades after Partition. Article 370 is a special clause in Indian Constitution, a prize that was extracted out of India in 1950 by Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah for throwing his lot with India, after lengthy negotiations with Indian leaders. Article 370 made Jammu and Kashmir a country within a country, with its own flag, emblem, constitution and Sadr-i-Riyasat (Prime Minister). The architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Ambedkar, opposed granting Article 370 but it was on India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's insistence and personal guarantee that it was granted to the state. Thus the state's residents lived under a separate set of laws, including those related to citizenship, ownership of property, and fundamental rights, as compared to other Indians.

That Article 370 was a temporary arrangement is evident from its wording, which allows its abrogation by the President of India in consultation with the now long-defunct Constituent Assembly. The trouble began even before as Article 370 was promulgated, and the omens that were seen in 1951 presaged the damage half a century of Article 370 would do. The Kashmiri Muslim-dominated National Conference opposed the extension of India’s citizenship laws, fundamental rights and related legal rights to the state. They also began to question the finality of the accession of the state to India.

Hindus in Jammu rose up in protest in a movement known as the Praja Parishad agitation. The Praja Parishad movement strongly opposed any moves towards independence of the state. Its slogan was 'Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Pradhan' (One Constitution, One flag, and One President).

The National Conference led by Sheikh Abdullah used the leeway granted to it by India to grab all the seats of the Constituent Assembly, squeezing out representatives of Jammu and Ladakh, and those of Kashmiri Hindus and Sikhs.

Article 370 was designed to maintain the separate character of valley Muslims at the expense of all other groups in the state, and at the expense of the stability and future of the subcontinent.

P.S. And now we have SHARIA in Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. Thanks to UPA!

A REALLY BAD DAY -

There was this guy at a bar, just looking at his drink. He stays like that for half an hour.

Then, this big trouble-making truck driver steps next to him, takes the drink from the guy, and just drinks it all down. The poor man starts crying. The truck driver says, "Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I'll buy you another drink. I just can't stand to see a man cry."

"No, it's not that. This day is the worst of my life. First, I fall asleep, and I go late to my office. My boss, outrageous, fires me. When I leave the building, to my car, I found out it was stolen. The police said that they can do nothing. I get a cab to return home, and when I leave it, I remember I left my wallet and credit cards there. The cab driver just drives away."

"I go home, and when I get there, I find my wife in bed with the gardener. I leave home, and come to this bar. And just when I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up and drink my poison."

Angels Send Valentines, Don't They?
On the most romantic day of the year, Judy's marriage had failed. How would she ever enjoy Valentine's Day again?
By Joan Wester Anderson

The golden moments in the stream of life rush past us,
and we see nothing but sand; the angels come to visit us,
and we only know them when they are gone.
—George Eliot

The valentines in the window displays seemed to mock Judy Kimball as she sloshed through the drugstore parking lot in Kent, Washington. As others demonstrated their love, she felt only loneliness and heartbreak. She glanced at passersby, all seemingly deep into their own thoughts. Other people's marriages failed, she knew, and somehow they went on living. But how? It had been only six days since her husband had told her he wanted a divorce, six days since her life had taken on a surreal feeling, and grief threatened to overwhelm her.

She hadn't expected anything like this to happen. They'd been together almost nineteen years, and she thought those had been happy years. But now she wondered how much of her husband's supposed contentment had been a lie. He had explained little, just gotten his things together and left while she and their three children reeled, trying to grasp what was happening. She hadn't shared the news with anyone yet, nor had she even cried. The hurt was too wrenching for talk or tears.

The first few days had passed in a blur, Somehow Judy summoned up the composure to cancel a dinner party she and her husband had planned to host on Saturday; she said that all three children had come down with the flu. And then there was her Wednesday night class in fiction writing. Now that the kids were older, she'd felt it was her turn to follow a long-held dream, to write, publish, and share any successes with her husband.

But now that dream was dead. She had skipped last week's class, and would probably drop out. What was the point? She had obviously failed at one of her most important tasks—being a beloved wife—so why should she expect success in any other aspect of her life? This trip to the drugstore for valentines for her children was the first time she'd ventured out all week, and it was taking its toll. She felt shaky and ill.

"Judy!" She heard the call from across the parking lot, and turned. Waving at her was Patricia, another student in her fiction writing class, wearing the same Black Watch plaid cape she always did. Judy waved back, hoping Patricia wouldn't come any closer. She seemed nice, but Judy didn't feel up to talking to anyone. Within seconds however, Patricia was at her side. "Hey, we missed class last week," she said, concern in her eyes. "Are you all right?"

The tears began to come. "My—my husband has asked separation—and ultimately a divorce. He's moved out." Judy astonished at her own words. Patricia was nothing more that casual acquaintance, someone who sat in the back of the classroom and occasionally smiled at her. Why was Judy sharing something personal with her?

But the compassion on Patricia's face was real. "Come on. It's chilly out here. Let's talk in my car." She guided Judy to a nearby vehicle.

The car seemed a warm and safe oasis, and Judy wept as she poured out her hurt, anger, and fear. Hadn't she tried, as best she knew how, to honor her commitment, to be the woman God wanted her to be? Why then, had he let this terrible thing happen to her and their precious children? She looked at Patricia and was shocked to see tears running down her cheeks. She shouldn't be putting this nice woman through this. She didn't even know if Patricia believed in God. "I'm so sorry to burden you with this," she whispered as her sobbing wound down. "You could never understand."

Patricia laid a hand on Judy's arm. "You're wrong," she said softly. "I do understand." Swiftly she removed something from her black cape and dropped it into Judy's hand. It was an angel pin.

"God hasn't forgotten you, Judy," Patricia said gently. "He just has other plans for you. You will survive this. Trust me."

"Thank you." Judy gave Patricia a quick hug and then slipped from the car. She was still shaky, but inside her—glowing as if for the first time—was a little flicker of hope. She closed her fingers around the angel pin and remembered the Lord's faithful promise, "I will never forsake you or abandon you" (Hebrews 13:5). She, who had always relied on her husband, was going to lean on God's strength now.

On the following Wednesday, Judy returned to her fiction class. It had taken a bit of interior pushing, but it was important that she make a beginning. And she knew Patricia, her newfound friend, would cheer her on. However, Patricia was absent, Nor did she come the next week, or the next. if only. Judy had thought to get her last name or telephone number! Class records were private, but on the following Wednesday, Judy approached the teacher. "Remember Patricia, the woman in the Black Watch plaid cape?" she asked.

The teacher looked mystified.

"She sat in the back of class," Judy added. "She hasn't been here the past few weeks, and I'd like to contact her."

The teacher shook her head. "I don't remember any woman in a plaid cape."

"Her first name was Patricia," Judy persisted. "If you can give me her last name.

The teacher ran her finger down the class roster, then looked at Judy. "There's no Patricia enrolled in this class," she said. "And no one by that name has dropped out."

"Pat? Patty? Tricia?"

The instructor shook her head. "Sorry. I wish I could help, but I'm afraid not."

Judy stood in a daze. You will survive this, Patricia had told her. Maybe Patricia had never been there for class. Maybe she had been there only for Judy. It was a mystery, but isn't life filled with them?

Judy sat down at her desk and reached for her notebook. She had a story to write.

KUMBH MELA - INDIANS LARGELY.....

That Indians largely get on with each other, even when packed up close and personal,"""

Kumbh harmony lessons for West
- Uniting ‘us’ and ‘them’
AMIT ROY

A foreigner at the Kumbh mela in Allahabad

London, Feb. 3: Sophisticated Indians living in, say, Ballygunge, Bandra or Bangalore may believe that the Kumbh mela, described by the British as “the largest single gathering of people on earth”, is something best attended by others but not so UK social psychologists who have studied crowd behaviour.

They say the West has much to learn from India in how to avoid the divisive “us” and “them” forces in society and, thereby, create greater harmony.

As it is, the Kumbh mela, where 35 lakh may gather at one moment as happened at the Ganges last week on the occasion of Maghi Poornima, is beloved of British photographers who love to focus on naked sadhus chilling out on chillum.

Channel 4 — the same network that has given the world Shilpa Shetty and Celebrity Big Brother — has carried live broadcasts from the Kumbh mela.

But the latest development is a just-published three-year study into the month-long Hindu festival by psychologists from the universities of St Andrews (where Prince William met his girlfriend, Kate Middleton), Dundee and Lancaster.

That Indians largely get on with each other, even when packed up close and personal, has been observed and commented on favourably in a report — though in suitably academic language.

The team said its work overturned many old beliefs about crowd behaviour.
Professor Steve Reicher, a social psychologist at St Andrews University, observed: “Despite the fact that the mela seems designed to increase stress in every way — it is very noisy day and night, very unhealthy, and very packed — what we found was that actually people feel serene, peaceful and unstressed.”

No doubt if he travelled on a packed 2B bus in Calcutta, he would arrive at the same conclusion and have possibly even more fun.

UK academics find ever more ingenious ways of keeping themselves in gainful employment — not that Reicher and his team are not composed of perceptive Brits.

Reicher is said to be “broadly interested in the issues of group behaviour and the individual-social relationship. More specifically, his recent research can be grouped into three areas.

The first is an attempt to develop a model of crowd action that accounts for both social determination and social change. The second concerns the construction of social categories through language and action. The third concerns political rhetoric and mass mobilisation — especially around the issue of national identity.”

Although the mela brings together a seething mass of humanity, there is virtually no disorder, crushes or rioting, the researchers noted.

They found that even though people at the festival came from different castes and social backgrounds, there was a strong sense of common identity. They said this positive outlook stemmed from a lack of an “us” and “them” psychology, which was often the root of social conflict.

In contrast, a distinct division existed in western society between, for example, immigrants and non-immigrants. According to Reicher, it was the responsibility of everyone to avoid doing anything to entrench the “us” and “them” mentality between communities, disrupting social cohesion.

He added: “These various findings raise very important questions about the nature of collective participation and how it can affect both individual well-being and social cohesion.”
Reicher’s colleague at St Andrew’s, Clare Cassidy, said: “Many people argue crowds are bad for you. But in the mela we found that people become more generous, more supportive and more orderly rather than less.”

She explained: “This is the opposite of a ‘walk on by’ society, it is a community where people are attentive to the needs of strangers.”

On Celebrity Big Brother, the American actor, Dirk Benedict, offered his own wisdom: “Sometimes the loneliest place is in the middle of a crowd.”

CHINESE EXECUTE MUSLIM TRYING TO SPLIT CHINA

http://www.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=81082
Muslim executed for trying to 'split' China

Beijing, February 9: China has executed a Uighur activist in a far-northwestern city for attempting to "split the motherland" and possessing explosives, drawing condemnation from a human rights group, which said the evidence was insufficient.

Ismail Semed, who was deported to China from Pakistan in 2003, had told the court a confession had been coerced, but he was executed nevertheless on Thursday in Urumqi, capital of the predominantly Muslim region of Xinjiang, Radio Free Asia on Friday quoted his widow, Buhejer, as saying.

"When the body was transferred to us at the cemetery I saw only one bullet hole in his heart," Buhejer told the US government-funded radio.

The exile group, the World Uighur Congress, said the prosecution had presented no credible evidence for a conviction.

"His trial, like most Uighur political prisoners' trials, was not fair," it said in an emailed statement.

A spokeswoman for the Urumqi Intermediate People's Court said a group of people had been executed on Thursday but said she had no knowledge of specific cases. The Xinjiang regional government declined to comment.

Turkic-speaking Muslim Uighurs account for 8 million of the 19 million people in Xinjiang.

The radio said the charge of attempting to split the motherland stemmed from the allegation that Semed was a founding member of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, outlawed by Beijing as a terrorist group.

But Nicholas Bequelin, Hong Kong-based China researcher of Human Rights Watch, said: "The death penalty was widely disproportionate to the alleged crimes ... his trial did not meet minimum requirements of fairness and due process."

"We don't think there was sufficient evidence to condemn him," Bequelin added.

China has waged a harsh campaign in recent years against what it says are violent separatists and Islamic extremists struggling to set up an independent "East Turkestan" in Xinjiang, which shares a border with Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Mongolia.

Buhejer met her husband briefly on Monday shortly after being informed of the decision to execute him, RFA said.

"(It was) only for 10 minutes" that they were allowed to meet, she was quoted as saying.

He told her to "take care of our children and let them get a good education". The couple has a young son and daughter.

Semed had previously served two prison sentences for taking part in a violent uprising in 1990. He fled to Pakistan after a Chinese government crackdown in 1997.

Two other Uighurs who testified against Semed were also executed, RFA quoted unnamed sources in the region as saying.

In a reference to another case currently in court in Urumqi, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Thursday Canadian diplomats had no right to be present at the hearing of Hussayin Celil, a Uighur accused by China of terrorism who was awarded Canadian citizenship two years ago.

Celil, also known as Yu Shanjiang, fled China in the 1990s and travelled last year to Uzbekistan, where he was detained and then extradited to China on terrorism charges.

He was cited in court documents related to Semed as a co-conspirator, Bequelin said. China has not recognised Celil's Canadian citizenship, obtained in 2005.

PS. Whereas in India, those who try to split India are rewarded by Congress and

Communists. What a shame! And hats off to China for being firm with separatists.

A RARE SEX MUSEUM IN MUMBAI

http://www.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=81137
Mumbai sex museum makes HIV lessons fun
Reuters,February 10, 2007

Mumbai, February 10: This is India's version of sex in the city. A rare sex museum in Mumbai, the country's teeming financial capital, is drawing hundreds of prostitutes and their regular clients who say they learn more about HIV/AIDS from its graphic exhibits than staid lectures on safe sex.

Antarang, which means intimate in Hindi, is a one-room exhibition of nude statues, models of the human anatomy and illustrations near a well-known red light district in Mumbai.

And it is India's only sex museum, according to its management.

Devoid of the glamour of sex museums of Amsterdam or New York, Antarang greets a visitor with a 'lingam', a Hindu phallic-shaped symbol worshipped as one of the representations of Lord Shiva, Kama Sutra verses and wooden and plastic models showing the act of conception, child birth as well as descriptions of various sexual diseases.

"A sex museum is a better place to learn about sex and everything related to it," M G Vallecha, the Chief of Antarang, entry to which is free, said.

The museum is run by the state government in an effort to combat HIV and AIDS in India. There are an estimated 5.7 million people infected with HIV, more than any other country, according to UN figures.

Experts say that number could quadruple by 2010 as many people are still reluctant to discuss safe sex openly.

Authorities all over India try various innovative ways, including street plays and 'condom parties', to spread awareness about sexual diseases.

Mumbai is not only India's biggest and most cosmopolitan city, but it is also home to millions of migrants who leave their families in villages to search for jobs.

NO CONDOM, NO SEX

Antarang, whose floor tiles are painted to look like sperm, was opened in 2003. It became popular among prostitutes and some of their clients after health workers began taking them there.

"A major bulk of our thousands of visitors every year are sex workers and health volunteers," Vallecha said.

Some sex seekers also visit. In India, many prostitutes act as mistresses for one regular client who pays for her upkeep. They can often develop close relationships and sometimes visit the museum together, officials said.

"At first, sex workers coming to the museum are shy. But slowly they discover new things about something they thought they knew all about," said Manish Pawar, a health worker who has brought hundreds of prostitutes and their clients to the museum.

Many of the sex workers say the museum has changed their lives by teaching them about the need for safe sex.

"When they told us about AIDS and all we didn't understand much, but now after visiting the museum it is much clearer to us," said Jyoti, a middle-aged prostitute who gave only one name.

"Now we tell clients no condom--no sex."

Authorities said they have few ordinary tourists.

"The area where the museum is located is stigmatised and even if they (tourists) want to come they don't because they don't want to be seen in a red light district," said Nirupa Borges, who helps run Antarang.

"We have some school and college students, but we would like more members of the mainstream society."

Authorities are planning to open another sex museum in a northern suburb, away from the red light district, to attract a wider audience.

"This museum is serving its purpose very well. We need more sex museums like this," Borges said.

P.S. Why is there SHIVA LINGA in a Sex Museum?

How the Jihadis mercilessly vandalized Hindus of Pakistan, India and Bangladesh and wiped out Hinduism from some parts of India viz., Pakistan and Bangladesh.**

Fierce and persistent Hindu resistance to the Islamic Jihad prevented the complete Islamization of India

Unlike the complete Islamization of Persia, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Turkey, North Africa, the Islamization of India was never complete. After more than one millennium of Muslim Tyranny from 715 up to 1761, more than 70 percent of the population of India remained Hindu. This was NOT due to any Muslim charity or benevolence, since the murderous and savage beastlike Muslims have none of these characteristics.

The Muslim tyranny in India was as blood-thirsty and insidious as it was in all parts of the globe that were unfortunate to be trampled by the Jihadis. The Hindus suffered initial setbacks due to the innocuous but ill-founded belief amongst them, as amongst all other non-Muslims, that the Muslims too were normal human beings, who would after a victory, settle down to govern the defeated population. But once the nightmare of Muslim tyranny began, the Hindus grew wiser relatively faster than most of the other unfortunate victims of the Islamic Jihad.

In the battle for Kubha (Kabul) in 980 C.E., the Muslims defeated the Hindus by using deceit. To ensure the secrecy of their advance, the Muslims had muffled the sounds of their horses by covering the hooves of their horses with felt and cloth. Dressed in black clothes the Muslims almost reached the Hindu camps at 2 A.M. at night as they knew that the Hindus did not fight from Sunset up to Sunrise. After the Hindus retired for the night, the Muslim were busy preparing for a night assault. While the Hindu army was in deep slumber, except for a few scouts, the Muslim army attacked by taking cover of the dark and stormy night. The storm entirely camouflaged the advance of the Muslims as they stealthily crept towards the Hindu camp, after crossing the few hillocks that separated the two camps.

The entire Hindu army was caught unawares, but they still put up a stiff fight against their treacherous and beastly adversaries. The battle continued till past dawn, but the Hindu army had been overpowered, tricked as it had been to give the advantage of surprise to the Muslims. By late morning the remnants of the Hindu army retreated back to their capital Kubha (Kabul), with the Muslims in hot pursuit. The Muslims soon occupied Kabul and continued to push the Hindus eastwards.

Unlike the Zoroastrian Persians, the Hindus never surrendered to the Muslim tyrants. They waged a relentless and violent struggle against the Muslims.

It was the valiant Hindu resistance that put paid all the savagery of the Muslims to convert all the Hindus to Islam at the pain of death.

When fortune favored them, the Hindus returned in almost equal measure, the barbarism of the Muslims and struck fear in Muslim hearts for Hindu warriors like Krishna Deva Raya, Rani Durgavati, Shivaji, Guru Gobind Singh, Banda Singh Bahadur and many others. The reason why the Hindus survived thirteen centuries of savage Muslim tyranny was that they learnt that the art of survival in face of a Muslim attack was giving back almost as much as they got from the beastlike Muslims.

We use the qualifier “almost” as the Hindus slaughtered the Muslims on the battlefield, but did not go to the extent of slaughtering Muslim civilians and giving them the choice of Hinduism or death, Hindus did not molest Muslim women en masse, neither did they destroy, en masse, all Mosques, nor did they build Hindus temples over them (the Babri Masjid-Ramjanabhomi struggle being a one off and very belated case). Never did the Hindus, after a victory, impose a penal tax like the jaziya on all Muslims and reduce the Muslims to such a state of servitude, that for Muslims dying would be more preferable than living under a tyrannous Hindu rule. There is no record of the defeated Muslims saving their skins by either jumping in to the common fire (as the Hindus did in Jauhar) to avoid converting to Hinduism.

It was this valiant Hindu resistance that put paid all the savagery of the Muslims to convert all the Hindus to Islam at the pain of death. But otherwise the sordid tale of Muslim savagery was no less brutal from that in other parts of the world overrun by the Islamic Jihadis.

Muslims invaded India only four years after they invaded Persia

Very few know that while the Muslims invaded Persia in 634, they invaded Sindh in India on the orders of the gangster Umar (the Muslim Khalifa) in 638, just a gap of four years. But while Persia succumbed in seventeen years by 651, Muslims took seven hundred years to overrun India (today Sindh is a part of a Muslim country called Pakistan that was carved out of Hindu India in 1947). And even after that they could not rule India in peace.

The Hindu resistance was not just fierce, but it kept increasing in ferocity till with the Marathas, the Hindus overtook the Muslims in their ferocity. It was this lesson which the Hindus learnt from the Muslims and applied against the Muslims, that led to the Hindu (Maratha) victories against the beast-like Muslims. It was the Marathas who presaged President Bush when he said “We will hunt down our enemies” The Marathas literally hunted down the Muslims. The only other case of a Muslim defeat in face of such tactics was in Ethiopia and Southern Sudan (Nubia) where the African Christians of Nubia used guerilla tactics against the Muslims to hunt them down and finally to defeat them.

Foul Tactics used by the Muslims against Indians (Hindus)

Although the Arab Muslims on the orders of the gangster Caliph Umar, attacked India in 638, they were repeatedly defeated by the Rajas of Makara (Makran) and Sindh. The Arab chroniclers then wrote derisive accounts of the reasons for their defeats at the hands of the Hindus by saying that the Hindus practice Voodoo and Black Magic and so bring Jinns and Shaitan to help them in war. Hence the Arabs cannot defeat them, the way the Arabs could easily defeat the Persians and the Byzantines.

But the Hindus were tenacious fighters. We need only to remember how the Greeks under Alexander overcame the Persian Achemanian empire in a few years, after which they attacked India, but the Hindus contested the Greeks so fiercely and harassed the Greek army so much that inspite of the Greeks securing a costly victory in the battle along the river Hydaspes (Vitasta, today’s Jhelum), the Greek troops mutinied and refused to advance further into India.

How the Muslims blackmailed a guard to open the door of the fort of Debal

The Muslims too had a tough job with the Hindus. After an unsuccessful campaign of more than eighty years from 638 C.E., the Muslims ultimately captured the Fort of Deval (Debal near modern Karachi) by deceit, by kidnapping the three children of the chief guardsman of the fort of Debal, beheading one and threatening to behead the other two. With this blackmail, they forced him to leave one of the secret trap doors open, after they had feigned retreat. Due to this betrayal, the Muslims could finally sink their ugly claws into India under their beast-like leader Mohammed-ibn-Qasim (Mohammed bin Kasim).

How the Rajput Hindus trounced the Arab Muslims for five hundred years

After the Muslim occupied Sindh, they did not rest quiet, they attacked Punjab, but were repulsed, then they attacked Rajputana, but were repulsed by Kings like Raja Bhoj, and when they attacked Gujarat, they were defeated by the Chalukyas (Solankis) of Anahilwada at the battle of Mount Arbuda (Abu).

The Muslims had studied Hindu warfare practices and misused the weakness of the Hindus to their hilt. Sabuktagin’s spies had told him that the Hindus start warfare at Sunrise and end it at sunset. The crafty Muslim chieftain decided to use this practice of the Hindus against them. After the Hindus retired for the night, the Muslim were busy preparing for a night assault. While the Hindu army was in deep slumber, except for a few scouts, the Muslim army attacked by taking cover of the dark and stormy night. When they were spotted, the Hindu scouts raised a hue and cry to awaken their sleeping troops. But it was too late. Before any significant number of the Hindus could arise to don their armor and be ready to fight the Muslims, a large number of them were done to death while they were half awake and struggling to prepare themselves for war.

Thus the Muslims could not make any headway into India from their occupation of Sindh in 715, up to 980. It was only in the year 980, that the Muslims could invade India once again. But they had to use another gateway. Instead of attacking Rajasthan, Punjab and Gujarat from Sindh, they attacked the Shahiya kingdom in Upaganastan (Afghanistan – literally the land of allied tribes).

Arabs fail to conquer India, Turks and Mongols (Mughals) take up the Jihad against India

These second Muslim lunge towards India was not led by Arab Muslims, but they were the Persian, Turkish and Mongol converts to Islam. The first Turko-Persian Muslim chieftain to attack the Hindu domains was named Sabuktagin. He ruled from Ghazni and had forced his way up to the domains of Jayapala Shahiya (Hindu-shahis) the Hindu Raja of Kubha (later renamed as Kabul by the city’s Muslims occupiers).

How the Muslims used the peculiar war ethics of the Hindus to craftily defeat them

He challenged Jayapala Shahiya to open warfare and decided the place and date of the war. True to his word the Hindu king reached the appointed place one day before the day of the war. This was in the year 980. The Muslims too had assembled at the appointed place and the two adversaries exchanged ambassadors and decided that the hostilities would commence at sunrise the next day.

The Muslims had muffled the sounds of their advance by covering the hooves of their horses with felt and cloth. Dressed in dark clothes the Muslims almost reached the Hindu camps at 2 A.M. at night.

The entire Hindu army was caught unawares, but they still put up a stiff fight against their beastly adversaries.

The Muslims came for the luncheon arranged at the banks of the Ravi river where the Hindu army had encamped. While intermingling with the soldiers, the Muslims moved about towards the stables of the Hindu camp and expressed surprise at how the Hindus fed their mighty elephants. The innocuous Hindus were playing the role of the gracious hosts, and indulged their “guests” with every query they asked. After all the Muslims were their guests and the Hindus had a quaint belief that “A guest is like God” (Athithi Devoh Bhava), but little did these unsuspecting Hindus realize that these Muslims guests were Satan incarnate! While the unsuspecting Hindus showed them around the elephant stables, the Muslims secretly fed the elephants poppy seeds (opium) mixed with fruits.

After the defeat at Kubha, the disgraced Hindu king Raja Jayapala Shahiya egged on by his son Anandpala Shahiya decided to shift his capital to Udabandapura (modern day Und in North West Frontier Province – Paktoonisthan the province of the Pakhta tribe mentioned in the Mahabharata period in ancient Hindu). But Jayapala could not bear the humiliation of defeat and decided to immolate himself rather than live with the shame of having been defeated by the Muslims with treachery. The crown passed to his son Anandpala Shahiya.

Thus ended the first Hindu-Muslim encounter in the year 980 C.E. two and half centuries after the Arabs had occupied Sindh in 715 C.E. after their first attacks on India that had started in 638 C.E. After this too it was only in 1192 that the Muslims could capture Delhi and in 1326 that they could reach South India. So more than three centuries of constant and treacherous Muslim attacks were needed to enable the Muslims to make a dent into India and only after nearly seven centuries of Muslim aggression could the Jihadis tentatively and temporarily overrun India. This stands in sharp contract to the swift capture and conversion of Persia, Syria, Egypt, North Africa, and Spain all of which fell to the truculent Muslim armies in less than eighty years from 635 C.E. up to 711 C.E.

How the Muslims poisoned the elephants of the Hindus at the Battle of Lahore to snatch victory once again using subterfuge

The Muslims seized on their victory over the Hindu army and overran the capital Kubha (which was renamed Kabul by the aggressors) they destroyed the Hindu temples there and force converted the Hindu population that stayed behind, to Islam. After the defeat of Jayapala Shahiya, his son Anandpala Shahiya, moved his capital from Kubha (present day Kabul) to Udbhandapura (present day Und where Jayapala committed Jauhar) and finally to Luvkushpura (present day Lahore).

He gathered all allies he could from Northern India and opposed the invading Muslims, now led by Sabuktagin’s son Mahmud of Ghazni. The armies met on the banks of the Ravi near Lahore. In the initial skirmishes, the Muslims were worsted by the Hindus who led the attacks using armor-clad elephants, and were determined to liberate their motherland from the schizophrenic savages which is what the Muslims were. In the initial defeats of the Muslims, the Hindus had pushed the Muslims up to the foothills of the Hindu Kush mountains. After these defeats, the Muslim realized that the armor-clad Elephants would be their nemesis and put paid any further invasions of India.

As the Muslims came from Afghanistan, they had no access to elephants, so they decided to use subterfuge which was instinctive for the Muslims practiced as it was from the days of the Treaty of Hudaibiya by their lecherous, treacherous, mass-murderer false prophet Mohammed.

The Muslims sent an envoy to Anandpala, saying that they are suing for peace, their conditions were that they should be allowed safe passage out of the country. As a gesture of goodwill they wanted to come over to the Hindu camp and have a common meal with the Hindus, to seal the peace treaty. Against the advice of his allies, the innocuous and unsuspecting Anandpala agreed to meet the treacherous Muslim marauders.
